268 vs 272

I have gotten in to collecting and playing with saw quite a bit the last two years. I have got a few 268s and 272s. Just wondering what’s everyone’s favorite. I ask because I like the 268s better. Idk why I only run a 24” or less bar so I guess I am not pushing them to the max. Something about actually cutting with the 268s I love. Even the open port 268 I have I think is awesome. The anti vibe is not as nice as the 365 or 372 but I am young and it doesn’t bother me much yet!

Both are/were great saws in their own right. If you have either one you're in good shape.
Then again, there's always the bigger is best crowd, however I would say this, there's no real good reason to convert a good running 268 into a 272. Save that sorta thing for a destroyed saw that you want to fix up.
Now if one were to throw the 266 into the mix it would liven up the conversation considerably.

I have 15 or so 266/268/272s my favorite of the stock saws
Is a hyway popup in a 268 closed port cylinder and a 3/4 outlet muffler mod.
On a 266
I've run it a year with a 24" full comp cutting hardwood.
Ported they run neck and neck
But not everyone can start a high compression non decomp saw.

More power is better. But they are the same to my eyes. Happy to own either one. 365/372 as well.

I had a 268 and still have a 272. I wish I still had the 268 sometimes. It seemed to handle a longer bar better. The 272 has more up top but the 268 just seemed to have endless grunt.

The 268 was a closed port w a meteor piston if I remember correctly. My 272 is a older non decomp. Not complaining about the 272. It's the fastest non ported 70cc saw I've owned. But the 268 would take it's lunch money if they were both wearing 32" bars.

Another one followed me home. Has some good parts but a aftermarket top end so that stinks. Looking for a oem top end now!
