Also in 89 there was a new wrap handle, which would be grey, which would go with the new brake. So if you have a black handle then it should have the old style brake? That would seem to be somewhat logical.

@Gentleman
Do to it's continued popularity would you consider having aftermarket 262xp intake manifolds made?
Am Cylinder kits are available everywhere but the manifolds are not.

And of course 266 se/xp topcovers
Would be welcome.

Well, they may be on the way already. Farmertec is reportedly doing the 262 chassis in the near future. In addition to the blocks, the rest of the intake system has mostly gone NLA as well. Carb bolts, (shared with the 242 chassis), throttle links, filter holders. Have to wait and see how faithful they are to the original. The variations between the 254/257/262 are more than you'd expect it you aren't familiar with them all.

Their 272 seems to have more of a 61 style intake than a 268/272 arrangement. They might elect to do the same and go with the simpler 1 piece 257 cover and intake. Keep in mind, that's all just speculation on my part regarding the details. Just aware that something is supposed to be in the works.

I never ran those little saws much I always stuck to d009 mount to simplify bar's and chains.
But I'm it locally the second guy this month brought me saws he'd had at a couple shops one a husky dealer
That said it couldn't be fixed.
So I get all series of husky's to work onIMG_20230326_112911211_HDR.jpg
The 257/262s have a good following here I get them often
But as careful as I was the air dam and horn literally crumbled as I was taking it apart.
Hopefully ft will stay true to the 262 footprint.

I hate that my reply here in several months is to ask a question about selling a saw. Sry about that. Hope y'all don't mind.

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion of what this saw would go for?? I built it last year, it was my 4th or 5th 61 to revive, so I wanted to do this one up really nice with a new OEM 272 cylinder and piston. It is not ported at all. Factory base gasket. The problem is the saw is too nice for me. I only have two tanks through it. The only thing not OEM is the ignition set and clutch. Original electrics were giving me trouble and I didn't want to take a gamble on old electronics. It runs STRONG.

Brand new OEM 272 cylinder and piston.
Brand new Tillotson HS224a (same size as 272 carb but has case idle screw configuration).
Brand new OEM 272 intake block.
New SKF crank bearings and seals
All new OEM gaskets used.
New old stock Oregon Rim

If it's just a used saw sold locally, it'll be hard to get what you got in it. Problem with these builds is you can't get 272 money for it unless the buyer understands what's going on. But she's SO clean, and if thats the missing piece of someone's collection. $400? More? I'd like to hear other's opinions, cause I usually sell used and rebuilt stuff too cheap.

That’s the min I’d ask and the most I’d pay…if I was selling I’d want more. That being said the closest I’ve run is a 266. Hope to build a 272 for Kevin to port this summer.
eBay prices are high…

Thanks Spike. That is true on 272 money. Looking at historical sales on ebay, the 272's are definitely a premium. I am not fretting too bad over getting my money back. It was a joy to build one this nice. I spent a long time waiting for a good deal on that new 272 OEM cylinder. Plus I bought the saw super cheap. Got lucky.

I was thinking around the same thing. Ebay can sometimes get a seller a nice premium compared to private sales. But, the seller fees are currently 13%.
Example - I would need to sell it for $460 to get $400. To get $500, I would need to sell for $575.

Apparently musical instruments are only charged 6%. Maybe I could tape a kazzo to the muffler hole? lol

Recent 272 sales in running condition. Top listings when sorted by price. I just thought this was interesting, I did not expect to see them sold quite this high. It's been a year since I last looked.

April Buy it now $600 + $100 Shipping ( I decoded the listing number and it did actually go for $600)
272 $600
This one is nuts. March Buy It Now $700 + $141 Shipping
272 $700
January Buy It Now $595 + $37 shipping
272 $595
April Auction $415 + $50 shipping
272 $415

There were only two running 61 saws in my search and they both went for $300 plus about $40 for shipping.

Should be somewhere between what a 61 and a 272xp will bring I would say, less the kazoo of course. Lol

@Stump Shot - Lol - Thanks for the feedback! I think I will try a moon shot ebay BIN price for a couple of weeks. When that doesn't work, I would likely try 450 plus shipping here.

You and many others have been so helpful the past two winters. I hate that my participation here is so seasonal. Looking forward to the fall when I can hang here more often. Thanks again.

@Czed - I know right! I have this kink with certain things, when they are too nice and don't get used.

My friend found this along the interstate
I told him to take it backIMG_20230425_145304.jpgIMG_20230425_140027.jpg
Absolute dog of a saw compared to a 40.00 266

JRed guys, are all the chain brake parts the same between both brands saws? Have a 625II brake, that the flag melted/broke due to the previous owner using the wrong muffler.

The flag it different, straighter to match the straight front handle of the jonsered saws

Thanks. Anyone have a complete 625/630/670 clutch cover brake assembly they want to part with?
