Personally I want longevity
I figure the manufactures figure, pro fallers get a new saw every season. And they assume maybe others want run the saws hard enough, but occasionally. Then leaves tree workers like me. Then they could just say tree guys like me are just hard on saws, so are the manufacturers expecting anyone to actually get long life out of the equipment. Great question.

And the silly thing is saws are designed to run full throttle in the cut no matter who drives it, and those/we whom have leant on them for a living know how to sharpen them and a sharp saw outlasts a homeowners who’s never learnt that and quite often runs old fuel!!! Have never nor worked for anyone that bought new saws each year… I’m still running a 27yr old 61 for a work saw too

Agree all the way. I'm in it for the long haul. Get attached to my saws, even though they make alot of money. I don't want to have to keep replacing them. And yes the sharp chain, it's mind boggling how many people can't get that right or realize it.

That brings up a very good point about sharp chains a lot of people do not realize how important a short chain is
To longevity of a saw.
And of course good oil

... it’s all about the thumb on emissions not engine longevity, from here it’s simply do you want the engine to last or not?
This ^^^. Apparently saw manufacturers have to tune lean & hot @ 50:1 to pass emissions. What happens after the sale is another story. Someone who knows a lot more about these things than me suggested Amsoil Dominator @ 40:1, & that's what I'd run if I had a need for one of these big 592's & 585's. As for me, I'm trying to get through $70 of Stihl Ultra @ 50:1 (holding breath) before I switch. No oil-related problems with 5 stock saws & a trimmer in 12 years, though.

My suggestion is just makes it a little heavy I was in the same boat with stihl Oil .Saw I had for 22 years I just had to rebuild Starter Side failure. was happening .granite l did not use my saws every day that’s why it’s so old.

I still won’t run 40:1 but that’s your choice, was just very interesting to find husky themselves stating 33:1 for saws over 70cc & commercial use, but saw size doesn’t matter they all rev hard. And yet the dealer here had no idea

You don’t have to run that stihl ultra at 50:1 it’s a recommended emission rating to cover themselves
