I'm gonna throw this out there.
If I actual did any real work and really NEEDED a saw that big for actual work.
Of all the saws I have had in my hands for sheer F'in joy in cutting big wood.....hands down.......
Redfin MS661

I have run more than a dozen 661s from at least 7 builders and this saw isn't even on the same plane of existence.
I prefer one of my beloved 064s (Peanut or Ugly Betty) or the Beast (MM 084) for just goldarnnit goofin around cutting for fun, but.....that 661 was mean and sweet and smooth and well...

Arguments and comments gladly accepted at stattlerandwaldorfdontgivetwopoopswhatyouthink.com

Great saw built by a great guy who knows how to get the most out of that saw !!!

Try a Masterminded 395 and you may leave the 661 idea behind. Well that is if you run bars over 36" anyway. The Husky is just as smooth.
Out of curiosity , what happens if you go below a 36"? The reason I want a bigger saw is obviously to run a longer b/c. But you noted it so now I'm curious.

At least in the US aside from milling, why would you want a 90+ cc saw for a shorter bar? a good 70cc saw can handle the shorter bars.

If I was going to run 30"-36" all the time, I'll take my 660. I'm sure the 661 is a better choice due to the new tech, (except for the MTronic), but that last word is a turnoff for me.

If you are talking 42-50", 395.

I've not ran a 395, but I do own a 2095, which is, according to our elders, very similar. 42" .404" is nice on my 2095.

Yes, it has the extra stickers.

I wish Stihl had a true 100cc saw: one with a manual carb, enough snout to own the 42-50" class, and enough oiler to lather said bar; much like ToMas gets lathered when the "pickle jar" is open.

Why they never answered the 2100/2101 is still so silly to me.

Edited to remove his "catch phrase."

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I (ass)umed the 661/395 were in the same class, given the info on the manufacturer websites. According to you guys the 395 has a lot more juice. I don't think I'll ever use much over a 36" b/c maybe a 42 here and there. So chalk me up for the 661or now maybe a 390, gosh looks like I need both.

They did with the 075/076. Just never really had any more power in a bigger chassis.

661 gets maxed out on AV with a 50". So much so that I wouldn't use it for more than a cut or two. 394/5 will handle it way better. A 66 will hold up on the AV end but doesn't have the oiler to keep it sopping wet like the 394/5 or a 9010 for that matter.

MMWS 395xp........

........The 395 humiliated them all. Strongest saw I have ever ran. Smooth, great filtration, and all the power you could want.

Without a doubt, my next saw purchase. I have zero need for a saw this size but darn it I sure do want one!!!

If it will help save your life/wife, I think you could get by quite nicely with a 288xp. I know it's not the 100cc monster that dreams are made of, but they do seem to cut pretty well.

Most impressive big bore saw I've ran (w/ a long bar) was a SCARR ported 395. Being used to my almost stock 394, this saw blew me away!

All time greatest muscle saw... no question it was a @Redfin 2100. Holyfrackingsheetbatman, this thing is an animal. :applaudit:

The 075/076 is a cinderblock compared to a 2100: I know you know.

So much so that mine went down the road, as did an 880, after EmuLegs worked over my 660.

I just wasn't impressed.
