This is just my allotment shed that I,m building a 5’ extension on. It’s a bit cold to build the corner brick pillars so at the moment it’s being supported with wood.
With all the ash dieback around here I'm Using it as much as possible.

So it’s Not really milled wood just yet. Although I will be milling the wood for the floor with ash.. it’s really a case of use whatever is available for free and make it up/design it as you get the bits that you want or need. 😉

I'm pre-fabbing a bathroom extension for my upstate cabin, but it is all dimensional treated lumber, nothing that I milled.

It is 7' X 8' and will come off the side in the back. The two new footings will be on the bluestone bedrock. MechanicMatt got a little excavator up there and cleared the loose rock last week.

Because my cabin is off the grid, I am pre-fabbing all the rafters, roof plywood, beams, etc. down here.

This is the cabin construction back in 2014. The last picture is my brother Matt, my nephew MechanicMatt, and my friend Harold (a carpenter).

The cabin is 20' X 24', two stories high with 1.5' overhangs. All from Ash (that blew down) milled with the chainsaws. Post + Beams all 6.5" square, beams are 20' across and 27' long, side posts are 12' (with floor at 8'), center beams 17" for a roof pitch of 6/12. Rafters were store bought dimensional lumber.

The diagonal bracing is all on the second floor, so the first floor is "clear" 20' X 24' w/o any posts or head bumping on the diagonals.

The first floor is the "living space", the second floor is for sleeping and card playing. The second floor is insulated, the first floor is just plywood walls (w/cement board at the bottom to stop the porcupines.)

Our airtight 55-gal drum wood stove (a Sotz kit) keeps us warm, all furnishings are milled with chainsaw!

This was one of my favorite threads from the other site. Figured we ought to have one too.

Show us what you've made!

Here's a couple of my recent projects. I made some new slats for this park bench out of black locust. The road sign was a wedding gift for some friends of mine - also black locust.

Funny, I am doing the exact same thing to my brother's very similar bench with black locust as well! I assume this is an outdoor bench? How does it look 8 years later? I have noticed black locust takes on a very nice orange hue after UV exposure then eventually fades to gray. I am trying to find a way to "lock in" that orange color with some UV-resistant coating. Any ideas?

We have a few poplar logs that have been in the barn for a couple of years. We'll cut em into inch lumber and see how dry the lumber is. Hopefully, we can get enough to do the wall to the right.
It looks great Randy
