I could almost see opening them at different times might lead to a gradual input, similar in operation (for a different reason) than a pre-combustion chamber on an IDI diesel engine. I would almost theorize that building gradually would lead to a smoother power pulse and better mixing, but could be wrong. Just a mechanical hack who fancies himself a thinker...
