It was a great time.

I think that's Guido Salvage (Gary) working on a saw in the pic. He hasn't been around for quite awhile.

The last I saw Gary was at a GTG near Ada Ohio .I bought a pair of Makita concrete saws from sight unseen ,cheap .I got one to run the other needs a top end . Might be a good winter project come to think about although I have no idea why I would need another concrete saw .

I always have no idea why i keep looking for and buying old stuff like saws, cars, trucks ect.
Maybe because i heard once that so long as you have projects to complete you will stay alive...

I may lift the cylinder after I get a few more weed wackers and blowers running and check for damage .That one non running had a bunch of metal shaving all over it so I assume they were cutting rod or rail with it .
Kind of light for a rail saw Makita DPC 7321 70 ish cc I think .

Here's a picture of that Mac Titan 70 .The tank appears to be molded into the lower handle much like Stihl which is a type of high impact plastic

Tried these on my 10 series McCulloch saws and they're nice fittings, but 9/16" wrench not 1/2".

I am working on putting together an SP125 from parts I've been collecting for some time. I am getting close, but find I need the air filter anchor PN 69152...actually I had one but sold it to someone in need. If anyone out there has one, let's talk.

Thanks Lee. This will be a real "junkyard dog" if I can find all of the pieces.

One thing is bothering me more than it should.
I really enjoy using my SP81, somehow it feels really solid in hand and sound is just mesmerizing, but im always having in mind that cylinder is chrome plated, and they are difficult to find.
So the question is, how durable are this things? Im using 20:1 oil ratio, richy mixture.
Do i have any reasons to worry about wearing it down?

At that ratio your worry should be excessive carbon build up in the exhaust port/muffler that could break loose and enter the cylinder causing the very damage you're trying to avoid with such a mixture. The cylinder may not be destroyed, but carbon scoring can thoroughly trash a piston.

Otherwise, the chromed cylinder itself should outlast both the piston and the rings.

This is only an opinion .Because the SP 81 predates the 850,805,800 etc. it would stand to reason the plating could be better .I had an 805 where the plating flaked .It of course was later in the production and it could have been due to shortage of higher quality hard chrome by political conditions in Rhodesia . I might add that time period also led to chrome flaking from automobiles because of poor quality .

Would anyone have some 740/790 parts they might be willing to let go? I need a stuffer, oil tank and lower handle support with hood for a project im going to start soon.

McCulloch originally recommended 40:1 mix in all the later saws including the SP80 & 81 models. By the time the later SP81 & 81E models and the PM850's were in production they were recommending 32:1 since, apparently, so many of these were being cooked by RPM zealots.

I've also read (in McCulloch literature) the 32:1 ratio was primarily recommended if using non-McCulloch mix oils -- presumably because of their inferior blends and properties compared to McCulloch oils.

It may have been comparing more formulated mix oils to the SAE 30 WT motor oil often used during that time period .If you get into kart engines they recommended 20 to 1 ratio .
Of course you need to keep in mind because a highly modified racing McCulloch engine on rocket fuel was only about 10 feature races of 20 laps on a short track. Couple hours more or less between rebuilds .

I think I can set you up with a stuffer and oil tank Ryan, but I don't have any spare oil tanks with the automatic oiler.
