Ok fellers, wobble box blew up again on our NH 472. 4 years ago the nut came off and damaged the shaft where the outer bearing rides. Was able to clean it up and rethread the stub and new bearings/seals. Sunday the outer bearing shattered and the shaft is done. The machines has some other things needed done to it as well. Really thinking heavy on replacing it.

My limiting factor is 45 pto HP. Fil is dead set on a mower conditioner. The 472 is perfect for us as we only do 20 acres a year twice. Our fields are clean and may break a tooth every other year so sickle bars are just fine.

Real question is you guys that just use disc cutters. How does your crop turn out without conditioning? We have a 4 basket Tedder and can usually go from cut to bale in 2 days if temps and sun are right with the 472.
If you decide you can forgo conditioning, you might consider looking at a drum mower. Requires less horsepower to run than some of the disc. We run a trailed disc mower which is nice since I cut in the middle of the night because of my job.

My combine holds 250 gallons
9650 sts
I actually kind of like it because it runs a long time on that. I can take fuel with me everyday and fill the other machine up 2388 case and any leftover fuel in tank can “fit” in the John.
But yeah it can run many many hours on 250 gallons So it’s kinda ok. Hell if fuel goes down I can store 250 gallons in it. It’ll get used up anyhow

Dad used to b-word every time he saw someone pulling a 750 gallon fuel cart around, he didn’t comprehend that they are filling 2-3 combines & 2-3 tractors pulling augur carts.

My brother bought a 9770 so they have to fuel that & the 8300 on the cart, now Dad just b-words about how much fuel they take. Lol.
