i repaired a 455 once and im positive i had more in parts than it would have cost to just buy another one new. at the time they were still on about 350 bucks but i got for free and let someone borrow it who thought it was a good idea to wash it and not dump the water out and run it when he was done. i didnt discover it for about 6 weeks when i was prepairng everything for winter. the bearings were almost rusted in place.
well, not in New Zealand its not cheaper...

I suggest you request a Husky 450 service manual. It's extensive and it looks like you need that manual. I've been servicing a Rancher with a 20" bar for several years and never run unto this operating difficulty. Here's one:

I’ve actually seen many of this family of saws with odd air leaks, dead factory coils, loose flywheels from new ect. Not real high on my list of saws to buy from any manufacturer personally. I’d talk them up to a 455/460 if they insist on a husky

OK, so I replaced the crank seals. Problem solved. This was an easy job and with about 50 bucks of seals and 2 hrs doing it for the first time. I have no confidence in my shop anymore. If they had suggested this from the start we would have been sorted..
How much slop should there be in the crank bearings - absolutely nothing detectible or normal slight bearing wear?

Even new bearings will have a small amount of play, if they rolled smoothly and were quiet I’m sure they’re ok. Saws use a c3 series bearing that naturally has slightly more clearance so you don’t get binding issues after they heat up.

Had a similar problem with a 440 that was donated to me due to a severely scored piston. Previous owner thinks that he may have straight gassed it but was not sure, so I replaced piston and cylinder with oem Husqvarna parts. After reassembly saw never would run correctly and would have to constantly tune on it. I sprayed brake kleen around seals and crankcase while running and it had no effect on the running but when I sprayed around the intake where it mounts to cylinder the engine immediately died. Pulled the intake off of the cylinder and noticed a very small tear in the rubber on the back side of the intake around the impulse hole. Replaced intake and saw runs like it should now.
I believe the part number for the 450 intake is

GENUINE OEM INLET PIPE ASSEMBLY FITS HUSQVARNA 445 450 544082301.

Hope this helps
