On those with the start cover Special they had decomp, on those with the top cover Specialc they didn't have decomp.

The only one they should have called special is with the Gilardoni 241 cylinder

Thanks i am a new member on this forum mye latest builds hq 254 xpg, 162 sg 42 special and now 42 special trying freshing up old sylinder and piston.

Mine 242, 2 of them splitt and new bearings the others new seals and cleaning, one more on the bench miss som parts.

Got my 246 all stripped down and cleaned, case mag rot repaired and case halves painted. Just need to reassemble.

Bead blasted all, or as much as I could, of the oxidation to clean metal. Acetone to get any final stuff. Marine-tech epoxy, heated slightly, into the voids after heating the case half. Heat gun, again but not too hot, to get the epoxy to flow into small spots and smooth ever out with a small sculpting knife.
Cure.
Re-sculpt with burr and sanding bits back to shape. Hand sand with 120g. Yea, it takes quite some time if extensive damage.
The Husqvarna paint seems to match very well unless the old paint is too faded.2100 case, welded, reshaped, painted

They aren't perfect but will function.
To get a more even and 'like new' appearance, more detailed sanding would be needed, especially in blending into existing paint. Ideally, the entire piece could be bead blasted but i was interested in that much work, i just wanted a functioning saw.

Magnesium can only be done with TIG.

It should. At least as well as any other petroleum based spray paint.
Nothing specific on the label but it is intended for machinery, so…

Tanks have tried to modify clutchcovers from hg 50-55 to 254 the break works but its a little homemade.

I don't have one of these setups, but I use a Dremel with a wire wheel to clean the area and the mag rot, then I fill it with JB Weld. After it dries, sand it, prime it and then paint it.

A sand/bead blasting setup will speed up the process and probably do a more effective/efficient job at it.

Is the jb weld hard to sand, dremel or hand sending ?
