Yes, I made a mistake, I was thinking of castor based oils. Ester based oils are fine in cold weather. I'll correct my mistake in my post above.I haven’t heard specifically of 710 having an issue in the wintertime. I know there are members here who use it exclusively year round without issue. I have been into several saws using it and they appear perfect inside
That makes sense. The popular oils with castor are Maxima 927, Klotz Super Techniplate and I believe R50, and BenolYes, I made a mistake, I was thinking of castor based oils. Ester based oils are fine in cold weather. I'll correct my mistake in my post above.
Stihl ultra is the worst performing oil I've ever usedFrom reading this forum and others it seems the oils below are good performers...
Amsoil Dominator
Echo Red Armor
Motul 710 2T
Honda HP2
Maxima K2
Schaeffer’s 7000
Now, what about Stihl Ultra? Are the oils above better? I've read some comments on here and also Chickanic on YouTube says Stihl oil can lead to carbon buildup?

Would you recommend a 32:1 ratio or 40:1 ratio for the Stihl 500 for less engine wear and longer engine life?Because the oem’s are bound by the epa and that’s all they CAN recommend. Many here have seen the carnage left behind with bearings going bad prematurely. On top of that, small 2 strokes continue to make more power down to about 24:1 due to added ring seal.
Another reason is that most new saws today use strato technology and are about 30% more efficient due to it. That 30% more efficiency equates to 30% less oil running through the lower end to lubricate the bearings. 50:1 in a strato saw is very similar to running 70:1 in a traditional 2 stroke. Another way to look at that is 50:1 in a traditional two stroke (as far as how much oil the bearings see) is very similar to running 32:1 in a strato.
The 50:1 craze got started 40 years ago largely because richer ratios were fouling plugs and creating carbon that would build up. There are many new oils out today though with enough detergent in them that they don’t build carbon at all and have proven to actually burn cleaner yet at heavier ratios because of the detergent. If you use a good oil that does not promote carbon, (Motul 710 is perfect), there are no drawbacks to running extra oil.

Depends on where it’s from. I have seen bottles of Ultra from Canada that said made by Castrol. And I have seen the MSDS sheets from Ultra in the US and it’s made by Omni Specialties. I believe the Castrol product is much better than what’s available in the USFrom reading this forum and others it seems the oils below are good performers...

Either is fine in a 500 as it’s not a strato. If you have other saws that are 5 series Huskies or Stihls with the 1 piece hood, it would be a good idea to run at 32:1Would you recommend a 32:1 ratio or 40:1 ratio for the Stihl 500 for less engine wear and longer engine life?
What should an ms400 ported, be run on? Been using husky hp+ at 40:1.I hate oil. Makes everything oily.
In my humble opinion......that is fine. What should an ms400 ported, be run on? Been using husky hp+ at 40:1.
FREEDOM !!!!!!Here in Wisconsin it's recommended to melt 2 sticks of butter into 1 gallon of e-free.
Smells like biscuits and Murica' while running.
Is “I can’t believe it’s not butter” ok to use? Or what brand? Here in Wisconsin it's recommended to melt 2 sticks of butter into 1 gallon of e-free.

I've ran both. Saber is made for OPE. Dominator is motorcycle racing oil. Saber has fuel stabilizer, Dominator does not.Interesting. I contacted Amsoil and asked them what they recommend for the Stihl 500 and if there is anything they offer that is superior to their Dominator and their reply below...
"Thank you for your inquiry. For 2 stroke tools we recommend AMSOIL SABER Professional 100% Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil. PRODUCT CODE: ATPPK-EA."
Do any of you have any experiences with Saber Professional vs Dominator?
