Interesting. I contacted Amsoil and asked them what they recommend for the Stihl 500 and if there is anything they offer that is superior to their Dominator and their reply below...

"Thank you for your inquiry. For 2 stroke tools we recommend AMSOIL SABER Professional 100% Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil. PRODUCT CODE: ATPPK-EA."

Do any of you have any experiences with Saber Professional vs Dominator?
Saber is fine....but at 40:1, not 100:1

Over on another chainsaw website (Arb*********) a member there posted this about Amsoil Dominator vs Saber...

"Dominator is an injection oil designed for high performance 2-stroke snowmobiles and similar engines. I've run it often in my snowmobiles. It is not designed as a mix oil as Saber is. I'm not saying it won't work, but I'm saying it's not formulated to stay mixed in suspension in gasoline as well as Saber is.

So abandon the Dominator for mix applications and stick with the Saber!"

Amsoil Saber
Red Armor
Motul 710 2T
Honda HP
Maxima K2
Schaeffer’s 7000

I think I'm all about set with oil. Whichever one above I get the better deal on I'll use at a 40:1 ratio. Thank you for the info.

You can type out Arboristsite here. We are all adults.

Good luck with your oil quest.

Some crazy guy tested oils leaner and leaner to failure. IIRC, Walmart synthetic did pretty good too. At 32 or 40:1, should be great

Will I notice a difference in carbon buildup or engine wear between 32:1 vs 40:1 with a good quality oil? Is one ratio superior to the other?

I contacted Motul directly and asked them what 2-stroke oil of theirs do they recommend for the Stihl 500 and they responded back with the Motul 710 2T with a 50:1 ratio...

Their reply below...

"Being that the engine is 2-stroke, aside from the chain oil, there is no oil in the crankcase of the engine. We do recommend our Motul 710 2T: MOTUL 710 2T - Motul at a mixture of 50:1 as listed in the owner’s manual.

Motul 710 2T Formulation built on synthetic bases with very high combustion properties which minimize smoke and deposits. Instantaneous and stable mixing with gasoline."

Stihl, Makita and Motul recommend a 50:1 ratio. Why do many members on the forums recommend a 32:1 or 40:1 ratio?
i contacted motul ... 800 off road they say

800 is a fairly heavy viscosity as is Red Armor. If running 32:1 in cold weather, especially in a ported saw, be forewarned they will pull over hard. I’ve ran 3-4 gallons each of Red Armor and 800 last summer, they are both good oils and I would use them again. Dominator is as good or better at half the price, have run quite a few gallons of this in various saws. With the lighter viscosity of Dominator you can run 32:1 and it still tune correctly, even in a 4 mix, or an auto tune/mtronic saw. It will leave the internals the cleanest of the oils you listed using fresh good gasoline.

Ain’t got time for that

I just want the results

You ever run that 359?
I have run it a few times in smaller stuff. It runs good.
I haven't had an opportunity to run it against my 6100 yet. Between my mom passing away, medical problems and work, it's been taking up all my time.

Do you have their email reply and the name of the rep who you talked to? I have Motul's email reply they sent me, name of their rep in my email saved box. They recommended Motul 710 2T for the Stihl 500.

The 800 Roadrace version is even thicker than the 800 Off-road version, witch they state the Off-road version is for air cooled 2T engines,
