Got to run the shindaiwa 488 today. I have a couple of tall cedars that obstruct my view of the hill on the other side of my valley. So I cut the bigger one down, limbed it from the bottom until it forked, about 36', and was able to get three twelve foot logs for milling. The bottom is 23" and the top was 14". Pretty nice logs. I already piled up the branches from the bottom 36' on my burn pile. I piled the logs on the hillside until I can tow the trailer down there with the big tractor. The little Power Trac barely kept the rear wheel on the ground when turning with the log on the grapple. (Tractor gets shorter when you turn, articulates). I can lift them onto a trailer but won't make the hill with them.

I also cut the wife some cedar cookies for the house. She loves the smell and I guess it keeps rodents out. It must as we haven't seen a mouse dropping in years. So now I can relax until it is time to lock up the birds. (Chickens and guineas)

Ugh, I earned a postdoc in stupid today. First, I got my truck stuck in mud because I wasn't paying attention where I was going. Got the tractor to push it out, but forgot to set the damn parking brake and she rolled into a fence post. Anybody wanna trade some 98 Ranger parts for a really nice buck deer mount?

Sucks about your pickup Ferg. Thankfully it wasn't worse.

I spent the day splitting wood and getting my wood situation in order. I got a touch lazy with splitting the past few months and then had 2 big jobs and it buried me in logs. So I just continued working through that, so I can have my driveway back.

Seems when 1 person wants a tree taken down, 3 want a tree taken down. All or nothing! Lol

Looks like I can get all my parts for around $200.00 and the hood I saw is already painted red in a shade close enough to the original.

For once a repair cheaper than what it looked like it was going to be. Usually they look minor and cost a fortune.

Finally got this area cleaned up and got it all split and stacked, except these 2 big rounds. They need to sit a week or so, to dry out a bit, before I split it. It's a lot easier to get behind on splitting wood, than it is to dig out of that hole, that's for sure.

That's fixing it my way, enough to be functional again. It's still going to show some damage, which I don't really care about. The plastic grille is going to be JB Welded back together.

Got the hood and put it on yesterday. Gonna get a bumper after Christmas. I'm going to use this as an opportunity to learn bodywork, ordered a book on it.

@FergusonTO35 it's 95% prep 5% skill, but it's a good thing to know bc it can save you a LOT of money (although supplies are not cheap).

My dad worked in the body shop at our local Ford dealer for all-but 50 years & did side work as well. As a kid I helped mask/tape up panels, etc. Then later in life it snowballed into me doing paint work on the side. I like to paint but absolutely HATE sanding, mostly because of my OCD & I'm too damn picky.

the only paint work I do now is for my cousin's Sprint cars. A lot of panels/hoods for his 270's & in more recent years for his 358.

I'm more interested in keeping a vehicle functional than anything else, it doesn't have to look perfect. The paint on the new hood is in good shape and semi-close to the rest of the truck so I'm going to leave it as is.
