I don't know how big your motor is, but I've purchased several inverters that will convert single phase to three phase, I have them on my lathe, mill/drill, and surface grinder. I only have single phase in the shop and the variable speed operation of the lathe and mill/drill is sure nice. The surface grinder came with a purpose built three phase motor so the only option there was the inverter.

I agree op would be better off with a inverter. Probably cost effective too. Would be worth checking out.

My old lathe is set up similarly on a VFD. This new lathe has a two stage motor and a lot of controls wired for 3 phase, including an electric foot brake. I can’t say I’m very knowledgeable about these things but it seems simplest just to set up a Rotary Converter rather than rewire the controls.
