Earlier I drank my morning pot of coffee while watching the sun come up and several dozen deer working their way down the draw

Then I went and drilled out the stumps from yesterday’s sawing and poured Roundup concentrate in the holes

It kills black poplar/cottonwood back in Alaska

Hoping it does the same on the local Kiawe/Mesquite

Fingers crossed

Just fired up my second pot of the day and I’m enjoying the breeze on the lanai and watching the waves and hoping to see whales

A few have been reported off Maui so I should be seeing them soon

We use tordon rtu but have used roundup also. Doesn’t work quite as well as tordon sometimes a 2 nd application is needed.

About the only thing on the planet that'll kill an aggravating damn Mimosa. And even then, it usually takes two/three treatments and drilling to get it done.

Well Kiawe, like Mesquite, is in the Mimosidae family so looks like I got my work cut out for me

Got any extra C-4?

This is definitely off-label, but I have good results mixing either Glyphosate or Tordon in a 50/50 ratio with diesel fuel, and applying that to the fresh cut stumps.

I've mixed it as well with diesel...even added salt. It'll get 'em eventually, but it can take a few rounds at it for some.

Mimosa's no good?
Hummingbirds love them up here.

Mom had lots of mimosa trees in El Paso and they were messy but lovely

The property here in Hawaii is covered in Kiawe and I generally don’t mind it except these took hold in the leach field

They have very long taproots and I figured they would play hell with my septic system

I’m leaving the rest of them alone unless I need to build something like our upcoming pool project

They take zero maintenance and the deer love to lay under them

So, I have been working with this engineer at work that received his doctorate a while back and always talked about go-kart racing with the 101's when he was growing up. His love of the 2-stroke followed him to collage and he told me his thesis was written about the 2-stroke engine. He further explained that he had studied Gordon P. Blair's work and found some of Blair's calculations didn't quite add up. Well, this engineer continues telling me that his mother-in-law lived in Belfast, the same town in Ireland that Blair taught collage. His mother-in-law, goes to the collage, finds Blair and tells him that her son-in-law has found some of his formulas are incorrect and he needed to do a little more research and correct his mistake. LOL

He said Blair replied: "you need to buy my next book to get the revised calculations." He wouldn't offer an explanation of the mistakes in his first book. o_O

On another note, sadly, this engineer no longer has his thesis paper and has very little memory of his research on the 2-stroke. The most he remembers is the torque of the head bolts on the 101B, I think he said 60 inlbs. I wish I could have had an opportunity to talk with him in his younger days, but I have enjoyed his conversations in his older days. I always talk to him about modifications when I do them on saws hoping it would jog his memory, or offer a little advice.....hasn't happened yet, but he always seems interested in hearing what I am doing.

He will retire at the end of the year.

The suspect that stole the 066 from my house has been arrested. He didn't have the saw in his possession when he was arrested. To help identify him, he did have the 4-wheeler, the hat, and the knife that was on his belt that was caught on my camera.KIMG0989.JPG
