It would still work, I have a sleeved cylinder that has been bored through the aluminum jacket in a few spots.

I was thinking about it, the crack would have stopped at the lower transfer tunnel.

I think I have enough stock to try again. I'll get it warmer next time.

Mine is a 2 piece head and has a lip that goes over the top of the cylinder and squishes with the head so it's a slip fit but trapped.

This sleeve will be trapped too. If it cracks again I will try and run it.

Wall thickness was approx. 052" pretty thin for most sleeves I've seen.

Poke a couple holes in, and it should run.

Base didn't clean up 100% and the weld is really odd to machine but still have plenty of sealing area. Probably have more to take off the base to set squish.

It is coming along.

The weld is annealed because you let it cool to slowly so it smears when you are cutting it. WD40, cutting fluid or coolant will stop it from smearing and make for a lot cleaner looking cut.

I was thinking about that. I wonder if these couple rounds of heating, and a couple days artificially aged it? Seems a lot better today than when I fresh welded it.

I did dunk it as soon as I got the mandrel out after welding. Might have took too long to get it out. Not much steam left.

I'll add some fluid next time. Don't cut much aluminum, and this was the first weld so ideas trying all sorts of things.

Thank you for the pointers.
