And here we are currently.

The saw came from California, there's a tank on its way from a friend in New York and it's all coming together in Wisconsin..
It may not be a sharp dressed man, but this bish will definitely be nationwide....

I measured the cardboard..
Almost twice the thickness.
But, for what it's worth, it will work, run that way.

Coil gap adjusted.

Messes with the timing if set differently I believe is the biggest issue otherwise the signal gets weaker the farther away you get.
In the old days you could set everything coil and point gap with a match book cover and it would run just fine. Now we don't have matches any longer. :(

Just for gigs I should fire up the MS460 and see if I can notice a difference as I set that with the cardboard packaging. Then change it to the correct gap.

Not sure if it would be noticeable or not right off. You should though have a stronger spark which should make it easier to start on a cold day, might save you a pull or two. Timing I'm not sure which way it goes when setting a bigger gap, it shouldn't be a great amount at any rate and would have to do some pretty fine testing to tell the difference I believe. It's like a car that needs a tune-up kinda thing, you really don't notice it degrading as you drive.

Yeah. I'm not a fine tuned chainsaw appendage and don't notice the weight difference of a 24" vs a 20", so there's a chance you're 100% spot on.

Seems like the newer stuff with M Tronic prefers less gap where the older stuff isn’t as fussy. I keep old business cards and use them up as needed.

2 bolts to put the air deflector back in that I had previously removed.

And bolt it up.

It will be coming back off to replace the handle..
I took a good look at the starter pawls and recoil components but never flipped it over and took a look at the handle..
I'll make a run to the dealer this week.

Now the bar plate..
The holes go into the oil tank, so I put some sealant on them.

Installed the studs

The normal retaining screw hole doesn't line up.. is there supposed to be a screw in this type plate?

HATE those bar plates. Not every clutch cover works with them. They are supposed to go on after the studs are installed and then popped in place with a socket. I only use those when the case isn’t drilled for the retaining screw. If you have any issues, I can mail you out one that has the screw hole on it and the screw.

I don’t put the front AV bushings in till last, after the tank is in place. Less of a fight when you have to slide the tank forward and pivot it all at the same time youre pulling the boot and wires through. It’s just one less hurdle for that event.

That makes sense on the bar plate.
I'll pull the studs and reinstall with pushing the bar plate over.
I'll give it a go, if I hate it I think I have a different plate in my box o'stuff.

I see what you mean on the AV mounts and going together with the tank. I've done it both ways and haven't had an issue.

Aluminum step flashing from Home Depot is around .010. Used it to practice fine tig skills. A pop can is .003.

Would make a perfect gasket for you, but if you just sand .008 out of your band you’d be better off. Use an old slug and adhesive backed sandpaper.

Yeah, well..
Like I said in the beginning I had no exact plan for this.
But I'm kinda leaning on running it some as it is, then gather some bits and pieces and then hybrid it..

You might just like it as is, they run pretty darn good. ;)
