Line up the tabs under the contacts with the tank, a little pressure and it snaps in.
Reinstall the screw.


Tank is ready to meet the case now.

Great thread Ed! Love the detail and your sense of humour. I've just had a tidy low hour 10mm 044 across the bench, was a nice runner but the front of the oil tank was stove in - so I had to split her to weld up the cracks. Rebuilt the bottom end while I was at it and replaced the clutch and drum, but didn't need to to touch the piston, rings or cylinder:

Cut a big load of wood on Saturday with it and one of my other favorites. The 064 will be stripped down and the cylinder sent off to Scott in the near future, I sort of want a partner for my 066.

This one is a 12mm.

I can live with that, lord knows I’ll have something else you’ll want soon enough too if history repeats itself

Jug, gasket, muffler. No heat shield as pointed out earlier on this particular saw.

I start the lower bolts, helps everything line up better. Tighten it down to the jug.

And bolt on the front cover.


I removed the bar studs. Again.
After some digging in my box O'chainsaw shìt, found a plate and used that one.

Took the recoil off.

Unwind the rope.


Remove the spring, pawls, washer and pulley

Cut the rope.
Fish the new one through.
Tie a knot.
Call yourself a fuggin idjit because you didn't run it through the housing first.
Untie the knot.
Route it through the housing, pulley, tie the knot.
Reassemble..

Case, meet tank.
Tank, meet case.


Impulse hose on case


Insulators on tank.


I stand the case on the front.
Wires through..


Pull impulse into tank. A bit of oil on it helps.

Pull the intake through


Bolt up the lower AV mounts and install plugs.


And the upper mount

Remove the plug for easier top cover installation.
Fasten with 3 screws.


Plug back in, wire connected.


Hook the fuel line into the housing


Outer intake plate.
Hard to read, but says top

And inner intake ring as well.

Slide the carburetor home.


Hook in the throttle rod.


Connect to go trigger, hook presence lever to spring and hold in handle.


Hook in handle cover


And install screw.

Make sure all the control lever positions operate.
Make engine noises because @Stump Shot says your supposed to



Slide on the filter base


Air filter.
It's a Cross performance filter. Has a nice foam edge to seal. And a Stihl filter wrap.

And install the filter cover.

Some Ebay dogs and a standard chain catcher because the extra roller I thought I had wasn't there..

Bolt up the top handle.


Bar and chain..



It popped in 5 pulls, started in 2 more.
I'll try to actually cut something with it later today.
