That spring isn't necessary to run it, the top trigger doesn't effect it.
Sounds similar to my 394. The operator presence safety switch was broken and mostly missing as was the associated spring. It functioned without both, but the throttle trigger didn't have any spring to it till slack was taken up in the cable and it began to open the throttle on the carb. I ended up getting the missing parts and installed them...You know, OCD

You are correct sir I just checked. I don't for the life of me understand why though, as i stated earlier they are still in production in other parts of the world so Husqvarna is making or sourcing 100% of the parts for the factory. I do not see why, if they are tooled up to make the parts anyways, they would choose not to offer something as a service item.

It maybe un-related but it just may be EPA driven. Right now there are some OPE engine Manufacturers, Kawasaki and Honda that I know of, possibly others, that require when replacing an older engine, that the dealer physically receive it, and physically ruin it (a-la Cash for Clunkers) to ensure that it WON'T run again. It appears to be an emissions thing. While smaller numbers, the Big 4 may be facing similarly principled measures. Dealers not being able to buy a new safety screwdriver tool w/o remitting the broken one comes to mind. It may that there's strong financial or regulatory "incentive" to the major OPE brands NOT to supply the parts to keep older equipment running. I didn't mean to derail this into a political thread but while at a Scag mower shop earlier today I was getting the down-low on some of the crap that they're having to deal with now and it's bordering between arcane and extortion.

As far as the original thread's question, I'm inclined to agree with the Chimp. I love the feel, personality, etc or a ported 390 and will have one. But, I have a soft spot in my heart for the 2xx series saws. The torque and idle of the 288 are something else entirely. I just might have both eventually for no good reason other than I want them.

Yeah, in hind sight I think that the 8-pin was a little much for burying a 36" bar in hard maple. I'll probably run the 7-pin when I need the 36" and run the 8-pin with the 28" when I get one from fordf150.
I'm going to be running a lightweight 28 on mine too with 8 pin, seems like an awesome combo can't wait to try it. Your 394 will probably get even more power as you break it in more, how many tanks do you have on her? Seemed to run great in your video
