Thanks a lot i was leaning more toward the 390 out of the two huskies anyway, do you think the 661 might have a little more torque out of the box than a 390?

With eventual muffler mod how do you think the 390xp would handle a 32" bar buried in hardwood? Or every now and then a 36

I run them with 32-36” in hardwoods with 8 pins on my ported ones. Even tossed a 50” on a few to make some noodling cuts.

Lol not a problem, would have a shed full if was loaded. About the only way to find a good strong large chainsaw here is to buy new or eeeeeverrryyy now and then you might find a good one from craigslist, thats how i found my 044 and 034av, around here small saws and up to about 60 or 65cc rules.

Advance the the ignition timing on your 362 and open up the exhaust port in the back of the exit hole or add a second port. Acts like a different saw. The Mtron will respond just fine to the changes. Ran my stock one last week with the exhaust screen in. It is very disappointing to buck with. The carb saw 362 modded is not but sets dead wood on fire lol. It also has a port match and base gasket delete. You have to make a little more room if you delete the base gasket on those but do something to that muffler. 361 is worse... it has a baffle inside. They need a dual port.

Yes i already opened up the rear hole and added one on the opposite side of front cover with deflector, even pulled the lil screen holder in the upper corner, re-calibrated and it has done awesome, it definitely has a lil more power with the 24 inch bar than the 036 had.

At this point i think i am leaning more toward the stihl i have a good dealer and know most of the people there, plus my existing spare bars chains and sprockets should fit, but its hard to pass the reputation of a husqvarna xp series, has anyone heard of the larger husqvarnas being replaced in the coming year or two?

I usually run a 20" bar
Not sure about ever liking the 362 over the 361. If the Mtron saws responds well to heavy mods and a port job, maybe. The older non Mtron saws have more rpms in the cut, imo and that is my preferred midsize saw. The new saw has a bit better AV system... smoother unless you remove the 361 mount under the bar. Mine has none in one 361 here.

20 is what my 60cc series wears 90% of the time, will put a 24 on sometimes for a lil extra reach when needed, if bigger wood then will grab the 044. Will be interesting to see this new 592xp

Not a Lotta love for the "5"series in general....

2 and 3 for me

I honestly think most the new modernized saws are fairly ugly from both Stihl and Husky. I grew up around men running 064 and 066’s and 371 and 2100’s. They are big muscular looking saws with raw exhaust notes, stiff AV, big air filter covers, etc. These new ones, especially the 462, 500i and basically the entire Husky 5 series line seems like going from a 70 Chevelle big block to a Subaru STI. Both fast but one screams class and timeless looks.

I sure like the anti-vibe in newer saws. Old saws make my hands hurt. And my 550 mkii is pretty amazing as to the auto tune and the way it adjusts on the fly in the cut. If I wasn’t going to buy a new big saw until summer I would think about a 592 even though its new and unproven. Sort of unproven - they may have it figured out now.

Yes i know you can tell a huge anti vibe difference between old and new saws, love how my 044 feels solid/stiff with longer bars, but it can vibrate a lot more than a new one.

I can not work all day with a an 044-460. The left arm has rebuilt stuffs. It's not very happy with a 660 all day, nope. Wrist hurts and gets stiff. No left handed saws available now :-(
