If a 555 is a de-tuned 562, how do they make that happen? Restricted muffler? Smaller displacement? More conservative porting? Smaller carb jets?

Can one take a 555 and make it a 562?

afleetcommand has a great video on the differences.

It gets complicated, there’s transfer covers like huskihl said and also crank stuffers, maybe software. But 555 is also small mount vs 562XP large mount so completely different case. The other permutations exist in other markets. 555 was somewhat a low-top vs the bigger 562 top cover but I don’t think that’s true with the 2020 air filter updates.

I’m curious how torque compares on the 555.

For me, I don’t need a 562 or even a 555 for that matter. So the 555 was a good way to bridge the gap between the rancher class and pro saws. And the clamshells are way overpriced. But I sold my 262 and 7900 to fund this so I wanted something nice. I miss the 7900 but it went to a great new home. My dad loves the 6100 and has had zero issues with it. I just wanted to use the local dealer. I have an 028 Super project for the winter which I will either sell or keep as a small saw. Also have two 041 projects that will be sold when finished. I need a new weed trimmer for the spring.

I have a dumb question.

Not being a Husqvarna guy, what does a de-tuned saw entail?

Different methods in different models. Sometimes they've used dished pistons, sometimes different top ends entirely on the same chassis, sometimes just transfer covers. It's very common practice in the tractor world to do the same thing, offer multiple models on the same chassis with different hp numbers at different prices. There too, a guy who knows how they detuned a machine can often get a deal on some hp by increasing it after the sale, though computer stuff is changing that I imagine.

I have a 555 that is just a small mount 562 now. 562 stuff bolts right on.
I changed the ignition and carb . Put bigger transfer caps on. The crank dosen't have stuffers but I think it has better torque. I had all the 562 stuff in the parts pile.

I saw a lot

That's pretty. Now it needs some glitter on it. 20" bar?

Yeah 20” bar. Might use it this weekend but it’s end of rifle season so might be doing something else in the woods.

Yeah the 555 was still backordered and still had no ETA so I just got a 562 which was in stock. So this thread is no longer as interesting as I thought it would be haha

I built a bigger bench so it would be "cleaner". Part of my reason for consolidating saws is to save space. Will have to build a gun bench next.

What air filters do people like best in these? I assume the felt filter is good for all around, especially in hot weather. My 7900 really like the nylon mesh but that got dirty quick. I want to upgrade to the hd style filter, since I have the updated top cover.

Typical Husqvarna. Tipped over in the trunk within seconds of leaving lol. May upgrade to dual spikes and roller catch at some point. Sorry for the messy bench. View attachment 270829 View attachment 270830

Messy bench? It's spotless. No oil stains or dirt anywhere. Peg board is shiny white. Like you just moved into a brand new house. :)

@Spike60 I was fortunate enough to find it online. I don’t have time to make the trip right now. I’ll do so in the spring and get some maintenance stuff for my mower and whatnot.

Was a quick and easy job:
