I would be if it was everything but the P&C, otherwise too much stuff to find.

I'm having new bearings put in this case, and I have two sets of perfectly good (one ported) P&Cs.

The 460 piston measured the same as the new one (both 2.35), and I'm putting a ported 046-D jug on the saw, but the 460 cylinder is in perfect shape, and seems to have very nice ports (just needs the casting marks to be cleaned up a bit).

But I appreciate the offer.

I'm putting the saw back together. Even though the outside looks battered, it now has new bearing & seals and all new rubber, and will get that nice ported 046-D jug that Al did, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Two things that really frustrate me:

1) Anyone know any trick for installing those new green Stihl gas lines in a reasonable amount of time? I lubricated it and tied a piece of wire to it to help pull it through, and it still took me about an hour to get it in right. THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY!!!

2) Any advice on installing those piston clips??? I know Stihl makes a special tool for it, but you would need to get one for each piston pin size. Luckily, the local dealer did it for me no charge, before I launched the darn thing into outer space.

Back to work on the saw!

Install one end of the clip, put your thumb over 90% of it, push the other end into the pin channel and then into the groove. Use a small flat screwdriver.

Then apply band aid to thumb.

That is what I was trying to do, but after I launched it the first time, I figured I may not be lucky enough to find it the second time. Figured I only had about a 50/50 chance of installation vs launch. They should give you an extra or two with every piston!

the first time you do anything its tough...it gets easier with repetition.
1) warm it up SOME. don't cook the thing but some hair dryer/mild heat gun passes help.
2) buy the tool. or make it.
the "home made version is the one I like"

Notched screwdriver. I like the husky style with the little wings so I can grab it with vise grips.

Just use your thumbs. Push the open side of the clip in last. Most people try it the other way and end up sending them in orbit. Not a big deal after you've installed a few hundred.

Fuel line install for all the Stihls I have encountered made easy well easier - insert the line from outside the tank, with any little nibs or bumps lined up properly for the place they need to end up, grab the fuel line inside the tank as close to the top of the tank as possible with a strong and curved pair of hemostats, twist the fuel line towards the back of the saw firmly, don't pull to one side, that little puppy will pop right into the hole, lined up perfectly in less than a minute

Anyone who installs circlips without the proper Stihl approved tool has just not spent enough time watching my video :)
it really is badass when used right, but sometimes as my son pointed out I am so very full of fail :)

Dave,
I have a few "blocks" that I made to wrap around the crank and steady the piston while I monkey around with the clips and whats nots, kind of jams the skirt so it won't move while you align the tool.

I try to use that little notch to hold the first end of the clip, hold with thumb while carefully pushing the other end in with a small screw driver. The last Highway kit I did came with 2 sets, one with wings and one without.

Ah yes Jersey. Birthplace of the concrete center divider, costing drivers countless hours when they miss their exit.

Frustrating day today. Very anxious to finish up that saw, but kept getting interrupted, calls from clients, and my daughter had a minor mishap on the road.

Finally get it done, and I bring it out side and pull my brains out, and nothing.

Figure it is likely spark, since the kill switch on the saw had been disabled, but when taking it apart I realize the choke switch is not activating the choke.

So it looks like it may be the carb, so I change carbs, and make sure the choke is on, go out and give it a few pulls and sure enough it fires, but won't idle or rev hi (I adjusted it pig rich on purpose).

So I shut it down for a few, then go to restart it to tune it, and nothing. I soon realize that the choke was on when I assembled it, but once off it won't activate it again. So I take out the control lever and modify it (I figure it is worn a bit), and ensure that the choke now comes on when I use it, but the dang thing will not start for me again.

I got so frustrated I just had to leave it be for a while. Maybe pulling the control lever in & out a few times I messed something up with the kill switch??? Maybe I flooded it???

Not sure, but what ever it is, it will have to wait till tomorrow. This thing is driving me nuts!
