Is plating holding up to the alumahawg?
Yes, remarkably well. The factory plating doesn’t flake off like the AM stuff. It’s quite adherent.

The toughest plating I’ve ever personally came across is, by far, Meteor AM plating. It’s tougher than anything I’ve ever ground on.

Good to hear. Been concerned that Stihl may lower the quality of their plating like it appears the competition has.

Snow dampered my time and will damper finding a suitable test log.

Finished the jug, timing advanced. Did a little mod on the air inlet, it seemed choked down.

Hoping to get some cut vidja’s next weekend.

The muffler plan has not been finalized. I prefer a side outlet at the rear of the can. Good flow and noise canceling in that location.

Do you have a block that you mold deflectors over?
I do not.

I wound up opening up the factory outlet on the saw and not adding the extra deflector. I went to around 80%.

I added an internal baffle of SS to prevent the exhaust and sound waves from short circuiting out of the rear opening. It forces the gasses to go forward and hit the front of the can before they can vent out of it. Should flow well and hopefully reduce the decibels of the saw at the same time.

I’ll post pics at some point.

I relieved the AF holder so that any spitback could get sucked into the strato’s. Seems to make a difference on the Dyno I’ve been told. I didn’t take a post grinding pic, but I ground the ares marked in pastel blue away.

Here is the muffler baffle. I still feel it helps to stop a short circuit out of the deflector. Any saw I’ve done where u can check the piston without opening the muffler has been unreasonably loud. This quiets it down quite a bit.

Not my best welding, but I tig brazed the piece of stainless steel to the inside of the can without blowing through. Was a rough angle to weld at, and I am rusty as all hell. It certainly ain’t moving.

I am itching to light the fuse, but everything here is under a foot or two of snow. It’s gonna have to wait.
