Regarding the Fuel Line, Angelo gave some good advice: "warm it up SOME. don't cook the thing but some hair dryer/mild heat gun passes help."

So, you mean the doing it in an unheated garage when it is 20 degrees out wasn't so scmart!!!! I'll remember not to make that mistake again!

Frustrating day today. Very anxious to finish up that saw, but kept getting interrupted, calls from clients, and my daughter had a minor mishap on the road.

Finally get it done, and I bring it out side and pull my brains out, and nothing.

Figure it is likely spark, since the kill switch on the saw had been disabled, but when taking it apart I realize the choke switch is not activating the choke.

So it looks like it may be the carb, so I change carbs, and make sure the choke is on, go out and give it a few pulls and sure enough it fires, but won't idle or rev hi (I adjusted it pig rich on purpose).

So I shut it down for a few, then go to restart it to tune it, and nothing. I soon realize that the choke was on when I assembled it, but once off it won't activate it again. So I take out the control lever and modify it (I figure it is worn a bit), and ensure that the choke now comes on when I use it, but the dang thing will not start for me again.

I got so frustrated I just had to leave it be for a while. Maybe pulling the control lever in & out a few times I messed something up with the kill switch??? Maybe I flooded it???

Not sure, but what ever it is, it will have to wait till tomorrow. This thing is driving me nuts!

You do any comp testing Mike?

Anxious to see her run, comp readings, and a piston shot after a tank or two.

Initial startup is always unnerving for me.

The idle alone shoulda already destroyed anything mechanically wrong, like a ring catch.

I'd take a quick peak at the piston right now, it's easy enough to do

Just as a matter of "procedure" I never put the carby or muffler back on until I know it pops with a few drops of mix "direct injected".
if it pops then it gets "dressed". it can only be fuel delivery-ie carby, fuel line, or spark at that point.
saves some frustration in the long run for this donkey.

Well, it popped yesterday (actually ran a little, but it won't pop today. Unless something just up & died (like the coil or carb) the only thing I messed with is the shut off switch, when I took the control lever in & out of it a few times. It is a new shut off switch, the previous one was missing a contact.

I am gonna check it out carefully, then start replacing stuff.

I pull the plug, and muffler cover somtimes and burn it out with a propane torch through the exhaust port. Some people flip em upside down at top dead center. Or you could pull the jug quick.

I left the plug out all night thinking if it were flooded, that would help.

Just looking at the piston through the muffler, I don't think it is lacking fuel. Maybe something stuck on the carb and it is flooding everything, but I want to make sure I'm getting good spark first.

Any advice on how to test? The last time I thought a saw was not getting spark, it started!
