Usually a couple whacks with a rubber mallet on the cylinder frees up a seized piston. Remove the bolts, hold saw up by cylinder and give it a couple taps. Just be careful with the fins.

I got lucky, this piston was still moving. Just got done pulling the jug (yea, I know, I'm up late).

OK experts, tell me what I'm looking for. The piston is fried real good on the exhaust side, but the the intake side looks like nothing is wrong.

The saw is kinda dirty, with a lot of fine grain stuff on it. Was he over working a dull chain? The sprocket looks a little hammered. The B&C don't look bad at all. Came with a 20" ES bar and full chisel chain (I can convert it to square).

Also had a brand new NKG plug in it looked like it had never been fired. All the plastics are good, and the recoil is in great shape.

I also notice that the 440 had the heat shield behind the muffler just like the 460s, but my 044s don't have them. Are they necessary?

I just discovered why the saw "cooked", the Hi speed screw is only 1/4 turn out! Someone likely tuned it backwards (turned the Hi 1/4 out instead of the low).

I thought about that Brian, but I'm trying to get my hands on an 046 that may need that P&C, so I think I'm just gonna replace the piston on this one.

If I can get this saw to run anything close to 044#1, I will be very happy.

It's really not all that hard to put the 460 jug on the 440. I did it. ;) ( had lots of help from other here)

You can always put a 440 jug back on later if you don't like the hybrid.

You know you wanna...:p
