That high temp silicon used to work wonders on my valve covers. I will take your advice, but you always feel more comfortable using stuff you have used before!

I believe ya Dan, but it does not make any sense to me. You would think silicon would be perfect for that. Maybe too thin???

I'll have to cut a triangular groove in the middle of the base and cylinder (just joking)!!!

I used black rtv on a few saws. He'd for a year before I pulled it apart to have the base cut.

Why does no one else like it then? Seems like it would be much easier to use.

I honestly don't see using anything easier than 518/51813.

The silicone based products, when squished into the case, will harden and remain (hopefully).
The 518/51813 will be washed away or dissolved by the fuel and will not create obstacles for fuel flow

I love the way a worked saw runs, but I HATE working on tinny tiny parts with limited space!

I suppose I should have pulled the tank handle, but that would have been cheating.

After cleaning everything up, I put the cylinder over the rings, raised the rod to TDC, then used a tiny bungee to hold the cylinder to the tank handle.

Had to put the tiny tube of gasket maker in some needle nose pliers to reach where I had to, but the cylinder in down!

I'll try to get some time tomorrow to start putting the saw back together.

Mike,

Silicone and gasoline should never mix. The gas swells this silicone and melts it apparently.

There are some special silicones that are acceptable, but too much room for error picking the wrong one.

I bought Dirko off amazon and haven't had a single problem.

Apply to base with Popsicle stick (I can send you some) and then I just wipe any excess oil from the jug base.

Im confused ?
What does the "tiny bungee" holding to the tank handle do ? Ive done quite a few 1128 saws and don't remember wanting to remove the tank handle
its also early...:icon_cafe:

It may not be completely necessary, but I ALWAYS pull the tank when pulling the jug on any 1128 saw. So much easier. And only takes 5min.
Gives me an opportunity to clean the schmegma from around the base so none of that crap gets into the case. Which is important to me if I'm not splitting the cases.
Everybody does stuff differently.

I understand completely what Mike was talking about with the bungee.

Angelo, the little bungee holds the cylinder (which is over the rings) and piston up while I apply the gasket maker to the base. I start the cylinder over the piston before I apply the gasket maker, and I'm working on it alone.

Dan, I used the 51817 again, just made sure I sanded and cleaned with carb cleaner so it should stick better this time. Fingers crossed.
