It is not just the ethanol in the new gas, it is also the lack of lead in the new gas. Lead is a lubricant, so 50:1 with leaded gas was not so bad, but now the lead is gone, so I run 40:1 w/o any problems.

I'm really looking forward to having one of these cylinders on my saw!

For these kits, still want to use OEM wrist pin bearing, circlip, and do use a base gasket, ??? The thin base gasket??

Need to check squish on these??( I know that answer)

After market wrist pin Ok??

I was looking at the kit yesterday. I'd rather use the OEM pin and clips.

Gotta watch for sure, but I had jobs as a temporary worker putting made in USA stickers over made in China on the label, and putting Chinese parts into a made in America bin!!!

Customs caught one company, that wasn't very much fun
That's not good misleading the consumer I know it's not your fault but even still

I have noticed all of the top end kits from HL Supply have 40:1 stickers on them now
Mastermind recommendation. Just started doing it last month. So yesterday a guy who bought some cylinders called and said he won't use it if he can't use 50:1. He wanted an explanation of why it say 40:1 when all his other Stihl's use 50:1.

Sometimes, you just can't win! Just tell him it is "recommended" based on the additional performance gains. That may help.

Do the AM clips break easier? Not have enough spring?

A lot of the aftermarket components aren't hardened or finished as well as OEM. This includes the wrist pins, clips, needle bearings, etc. This can even extend to the tang on Stihl oil pump worm gears, pump pistons in aftermarket oil pumps, etc. There's a fine line on which aftermarket parts are great as replacement parts and which do not have the service life of OEM parts.

I learned all this the hard way when Bailey's started their aftermarket runs of parts back in 2003/04. I started as a test subject for the big bore kits during development and then for other parts as they started hitting the shelves. The aftermarket is getting better but it'll be a while before they catch up to OEM on certain things.

They have too much excess tang, and I don't trust them to be true spring steel.

On the wrist pin, weight is the reason I would rather use OEM. Look at OEM vs any aftermarket on the Stihl pins. The Stihl pin is bored on a taper from each end, and is quite a lot lighter.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Stihl recommends mixing 25:1 if you are not using their oil.
I this true?

In the older books I believe that's what I remember. The new ones just say Stihl 50:1 or equivalent high- quality oils. Maybe someone else remembers

That used to be true with several brands, including Stihl - I don't know if it still is.

Total BS of course, provided high quality (or same quality really) oil is used. What it really meant (means?) is that oil quality matters.
