Looks like it's plated to the top, and even out on the squish band. Probably just not honed all the way to the top.

My 084 CP cylinder was the same. Plated to the combustion chamber.
Whats the best way to take some off the squish with the plating on there?

I assume one would need to use a cutter as sanding wont work.

Sanding is easier than a cutter. Hand cutting the plating likes to chip and dig.

Mmmmm unfortunately I only do this as a hobby and cut the squish from less than 10 a year.
Even a cheap lathe needs tooling etc

I will find a way :)

Right now I am saving my pennies for a Mac SP 125

Yes my friend..... I believe so!
The 090 is not doing it for me. I an chasing something nastier.

Anyway, back on topic.

My CP 066 top end is still in the mail :(
Looking forward to seeing if I get a good one or a bad one.
Its like child birth and waiting to know if its an innie or an outie

Odd Kevin, it really does look plated.

Is the transition from the normal plating to that discolored upper band able to be felt with a pick? I looked that the NWP 260 jug here again, excited that maybe the ring of death was just not honed. There's a noticeable difference in bore on the NWP in that ring. You can feel it dip there.

I'm not sure what it is, to be honest.
It could be or it couldnt be.
I hope that Randy is correct.

Al, I was fighting the clock and the cold early this morning (02:30) when I checked. I remember checking one new aftermarket cylinder quickly with a dental pick, and I'm not 100% sure which one it was, I wish I remembered, but one was smoothe. I'll be looking at exactly what you asked in better detail tomorrow morning, or if I get home late tonight.

I am so going to get that exhaust as low as I can
Be carefull to see if the ring catches the interface of the coating to the cylinder if youre going to cut the base. I went too far once, it sounded like a bag being crumpled, twas the ring catching the plating.
