Back to post up some more pictures.
Some of these pictures are rather redundant. My apologies.

Let get the flywheel off. 13mm is the nut size. First, remove the nut and washer.


Then remove the flywheel. I just lightly tapped it from the back and it poped right of.


Now on to the removal of the flywheel key.

Next I poped the AV bushings out. Sorry about the blury picture. I just got behind them with a flathead screw driver and they poped right out.
Stator side poped out. Notice the bent one?

Now on the the clutch side. You will also see these pictures are not in order. The oil pump is still in.

Before I knew this thing was not going to get ported I went ahead and grabbed the port timing numbers. I am not.going to post them due to the fact the piston and exhaust port had so much soot built up on them, those numbers will not be acceptable. Anyway here's a picture with the timing wheel attached. I will get the timing numbers though after it back together.


Okay, back on track now that the AV bushings are removed the tank/handle can be separated from the crankcase.

A shot of the crankcase after the divorce. Never fear though. I can see into the future and they will be back together again. I hope my dry sense of humor doesn't bore yall to much.

Continued from above.poped the fuel cap out of it's resting spot.


On to removing the fuel line and filter. The fuel line was so old and hard, it never even collapsed when I cut it with a pliers. Got the filter peaking out of it's den.

Don't be shy now. You know the fresh airs bound to be better than that stale old fuel.

All the way out!! Good riddance!!

Now let's remove the trigger and safety bar. Tap two pins out then the fun begins.

Their out. The question is, will it go back in the way it came out? Its always fun when you don't or can't see how it was together. This thing was packed with junk.

Removed the little clips for the top cover so I don't accidentally toss the little babies out with the bath water. There's three of them in all. Two on the magneto side and one on the clutch side.


And there off. That was simple. Some of these small steps help later on down the line.

Removal of the oil tank cap, it removes the same way as the fuel cap, just a little harder. See the last picture for details on why.

Now, take a look at the part of the plug that goes in the tank. They are the same size,but thenoul cap is a lot smaller than the gas cap.

Now it time to take out the heart of this machine. Cylinder time!

Four bolts later and the cylinder slides right off reveling the little heart.

Cylinder head is off. There was some aluminum transfer in there. Wish I would have got a picture of it. A little elbow grease along with sandpaper removed it nicely. Don't judge me to hard...
Pulled the ring and a wrist pin retainer off the piston, then slide out the wrist pin.

The piston is off and the caged needle bearing removed.

Back in to share some more pictures. We are getting closer to getting this thing apart. Taking pictures like this makes the job take longer.

Seven bolts hold the case together. One back by the handle as can be seen in the first picture. Four in the crankcase area (second picture) and the two that held the dog In place. Third picture.




Now let's remove the bolts. Again 5/16 or 8mm as another member pointed out.

Let split the case. As you can see in the picture I attached a puller to put some pressure on the case, then put the heat gun to it till it moved a little.after that it came apart easily.

And the clutch side is off.

Repeted the same step and poped the magneto side off the crank. I was glad the bearing came out with the crank. Well the clutch side had to since the oil pump gear was still in place.

The pile of parts are growing in the box.

And now the pesky oil pump gear I have to deal with. Turned out to be simple though.

Alright, I went online to look for a gear puller for pulling the oil pump gear. After the seeing the price I searched for alternative methods and found a couple video's on the tube showing how to make a simple homemade puller. So that's the route I took.

First fitting on. I will describe the parts used in the next post.

Ball bearing set in place to protect the crank.

Second fitting screwed on to this fitting. I welded a nut on for a bolt for the tool to press against the ball bearing.

One last look.to make sure the ball is still in place.
Then on goes the bolt. Now the gear is ready to be pulled off.

The pieces used to make the puller are, a female 3/4"npt to female 1/2"npt reducer. Then a 3/4"npt male plug with an female 3/8"npt port. Now, I could have bought a 5/8" fine thread bolt to fit in the 3/8"npt port, butthe local hardware did not have the needed bolt. So I picked up an 5/8" nut and a 5/8"x2" bolt. I should have got a 1/2" nut and bolt. Would have saved drilling the threads out of the 3/8"npt fitting. O well, hind sights 20-20 they say. Welded the nut and and we were ready to go.

Now, let's remove that oil gear. The impact gun made short work of it.

As you can see it's now pulling of the shaft.
There's the gear in the fitting.

And there's the gear. The right tools make the job a lot simpler. Another look at the tool, it worked great!
Now we need to pull the bearings of the crankshaft. I guess we can save that for the next post since there a 5 picture limit per post.

On to pulling the bearings off the crank. I did the same thing here as I did with the case. Put some tension on the bearing with the puller, than heated the bearing till it poped. Then it pulled right off. First the clutch side.

Then the magneto side.
That was simple and painless. Just got to clean the crank and it will be ready to go back in.

Now that the saw is stripped we might as well take the recoil starter apart. The ropes already broke and the handle is missing. So it was as simple as pulling one screw and washer, then, just pick the pieces up and out.

Can't even see the screw it's so dirty.

And now it recoil assembly is stripped.

Let's move on to the last piece to disassemble. The chain brake. I will say this. I like the chain brake mounted on the saw better than on the bar/sprocket cover. This will be broke up in two posts.

First, I pulled this little plate thingamajiggy off.

Then pulled the Allen machine screw out of the brake handle.
Flipped it around and put the srew part way in from the back to pull the bushing out. Then just reached through and tapped the other half out. Simple and easy.
Here is the screw and bushings.

The the handle pops of the clutch cover. Next step is to.remove the e-clip and take the chani brake and spring out.

Continued from above, let's take the e-clip off. Dont let it fly!! They love to play hide and seek.
Now the pin comes right out and the handle can be removed and set off the side.

Got to drive the role pin out.
Then unscrew the piece that the screw driver is point to. After that the rest of the part come apart and pull out of the sprocket cover.
All the parts are now off and out of the sprocket cover.

Well that concludes the tear down of the Husqvarna 50. Now on to make a list of what's needed to make a running saw out of the pile of pieces

Now the fun begins *cough**cough* cleanup time! These part are in big need of cleaning.

Thank you! I appreciate it. one problem with parts that have soot on them, it stains them. They never clean up that good. But, it's better than it was!

Hahaha. What not? Thats what it's there for. Cleaning dirty things right?

For this job I used a 5 gallon bucket. We have a milk cow and I did not feel like scrubbing the washbtub to remove all the scum these part were bound to put off.
