Very nice, are these Whitetail deer?.
We dont have them in Australia, our main deer are Sambar, Red and Fallow.
Spotted this Fallow buck in a Wheat crop a few weeks back, I'll wait for his antler to develope and harvest him.
Sorry about the unsteady video, trying to hold my heavy varmint freehand.

Yes sir, white tail. We havent hunted this area very hard in the few years past, but have kept corn out seasonally and kept the cattle out of it for the last few years also. I know the bucks move large distances, but the doe are staying which brings the bucks back regularly.

Is that a Knight ya got there, Magnumitis? I got my dad a used one for Christmas last year and he really likes it.

It is. I bought it on clearance probably 12 years ago, never loaded or fired it till this season. 209 ignition was the hot thing at the time and this one took the lowly #10 musket caps, likely why it was marked down. It has a Green Mountain barrel and what appears to be a Timney trigger. It has taken two now, even with a chitty WM tasco scope. I'll be honest, i didnt think it would hold a zero. I'll likely upgrade to a low end vortex next summer.

What kind of powder do you use with it? I use Triple 7 in my 209 guns with good results, I wonder how it would do in an inline caplock.

How does it group? I'm looking at the Barnes for next year. According to their load data, triple 7 loose has more velocity across the board until you get up to 150gr loads, then triple 7 pellets are equal. Nothing on shockey gold though.

Taken many deer at 200+yrds.
Works great in my CVA.

150 grains? Ouch!! Then again, I only use solid lead slugs which would kick alot harder than sabots with that kind of charge. My NEF Huntsman really likes 70 grains T7 with the Lee 250 or 300 grain REAL bullet. I mostly use the 250 because it's easier to load, I think my 300 grain mold is a bit oversize.

I agree on 150 being too much for me.

Anybody ever try T7 in a sidelock? Real black is an endangered species around here. I hate Pyrodex, that stuff is just awful in every way except price.

I don't see why not. May require some fffg in the pan or in the breech. Is Goex considered true black powder? If so, I have some

I have an older fiber optic sighted, 209 primer, CVA Hunter bolt-action-inline. With 3x50gr pellets of T7 and 300gr power belts I shot 4 rds into 1.5" rested off of a pickup bed rail @100yds. I might shoot it better with a scope, but I currently don't care as that's good enough for me. If/when I have the time to get more serious about it, I may put glass on it, but I like having rapid sight acquisition and no limits on my FOV. We also have 2x Lyman Great Plains .50 cal Hawken style rifles and a CVA .54 caliber hawken style, all caplocks.

I intend to try 100grs of T7 with a few different projectiles to see what works well and go from there.

obviously I'm a noob to muzzle loading but have taken a liking to it because of our success. Looking forward to trying the Barnes boolits @hoskvarna

Thanks for everyone's input.

On a slightly different note, anyone here done any Dura coating?
