I know it's overkill (which @Douglas Ostrander is correct - Overkill IS underrated), but I'd like to see a .54 cal inline available. With a .429" sabot-ed bullet there's .061" difference to a .490" bore. Following that model, a .530 bore would make for a .469 bullet. With a slightly larger sabot jacket, (.011") you could then run .458" bullets from the .45-70 - .45-120 class, or African class projectiles ranging from 300-600 grains... That's a pretty decent window (twist rate and pressure dependent) to work with and would make for a VERY versatile larger game hunting platform, especially with a decent recoil pad. Put it in a 28-34" barrel and it could be a literal blast. It might also spur further black powder and substitute development which wouldn't be a bad thing.

Hello! FYI I use a 50 cal Savage 10ML-II Stainless Steel muzzleloader with 44.500 gr Vihtavouri smokeless powder. I weigh the powerder out to 4 decimal places in grams. My best shot was at 250 yards. Two small deer with one shot. The 250 gr bullet goes through the first deer without expanding.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been more interest in making muzzleloaders that can use smokeless powder. The only ones I am aware of are Savage and the barrel maker Smokeless Muzzleloading Inc. There are some very expensive custom makers out there as well. I would buy an SMI barrel for my NEF Huntsman but they restrict you to 4198 powder and sabots only, which kills any interest I would have. I don't think it would be that difficult to build a barrel that could duplicate .45-70 trapdoor performance with shotgun or fast rifle powder and standard lead bullets but it seems no one wants to do that. Hopefully, when the patent on Blackhorn 209 runs out we will see more muzzleloader powders similar to smokeless come out.

I picked up a little spanish side by side 16 gauge yesterday from a local pawn shop. It was manufactured by Fabrica De Armas and these were imported by Davidson Arms as the 63b in the late 60s and 70s. They aren't high dollar guns by any stretch, but good working doubles.

This one has 26" barrels and is choked IC/Mod and although I haven't weighed it yet I bet it doesn't weigh much over 6lbs. Should be a dandy little gun for grouse.

I'll get some pictures of it tonight after work for those who like a little gun porn

I'm looking at two cheaper guns right now and was hoping someone here may have one of them to give me a little review. The first one is a CVA Hunter in either 44mag or 243. The 243 is just so cheap I may grab it as I have a project Barrel here to RI do it in 38 Special. At the same time the 44mag is only a few bucks more... And hey who doesn't love a good 44mag.

The other is just a cheap carry gun. I'm looking at the Taurus 85 5 shot 38 Special or 357 mag. Both are so cheap I kind of want one. Any help is appreciated as always.

It tipped the scales at just under 6.5 lbs. It points so well and balances so nicely it feels like a lighter gun. The action is good and tight and other than a few marks on the stock it's in good shape. The butt plate is cracked so I'll have my gunsmith buddy fit a 1/2" grind to fit recoil pad.

I would get one of the new Henry single shots, they are available in both calibers for about the same cost. Henry customer service is superb and their guns are made in the USA. Also, I think the CVA is only available with a synthetic stock and no sights. The Henry has walnut furniture, sights, and uses H&R Handi-Rifle scope bases which are cheap and available.

My local fun store sells 85's like crazy and has reported very few problems with them. That being said, I love my S&W 637. It is a little more compact, has multitudes of grip options unlike the Taurus, and really doesn't cost that much more. Watch for my PM.

I just saw one of these this week. If its like the one I saw -- these guns are exceptional.
Though I've never shot one, I looked at this fire arm up close and have to say that I would own one in a heart beat. I have the imported Remington 12 gauge double barrel -- and the gun I looked at is far nicer.

Even nicer than the one I saw. I'd buy one in a heart beat (and yes I like the 16 gauge -- it has been a go-to for cotton tails for some time )

How do you like the 16ga? I've never messed with one.

Before I got my first shotgun all I used were 16s that belonged to my grandfather. He owned an ithaca 37 featherlite and a save 220 hammerless singleshot. Dad owns both now and I hope to have them some day.

I like a 16 gauge, especially one that isn't built on a 12 gauge frame. Too many manufacturers messed up their 16s by just hanging a 16 ga tube on a 12 gauge frame and made them too heavy. I owned a Remington 58 a few years back that I never should have parted with, I will own another one.
