I think I'm in the corner good now.
Is the top plate angle too steep?

When going from round to square it may take a couple sharpens to get the side plate hook to go away .

Here is a top and side that works good for me .,i missed the corner and got too much beak though ..404 11-3-2016 gtg work 005.jpg .404 11-3-2016 gtg work 007.jpg .404 11-3-2016 gtg work 004.jpg

Is it 30 deg on the tooth itself, or along the plane of the chain sitting flat?

Some file handles for round are 25 or 30° on the shoulder

Vertical is smoother. You want 2-3° forward lean for a smooth work chain.
Smooth is good and a trademark of square ground chain. At our recent GTG in Pa. I could tell, without looking, which saws had square vs. round ground chain.

Paragon, I presume you are cutting oak? Soft wood lets your teeth get away with angles that hardwood would kill quickly.

I think I read that "forward lean" contributes in a positive way to a chains self feeding characteristics. The fifth pic in post #1 looks pretty decent to me. It seems to have steepened up in some of your later pics?

Also, if I see black on the wheel, I dress...

If the underside angle isn't too crazy the square will hold up in hedge and locust. It will be smooth but not as fast as it could be with the more aggressive angles.

The way this adjusts around the chain holder, It may increase quickly. All I did was rotate it down a smidge to lose the hook and get the corner where it needed to be. I think I'll need to move the carriage to correct it.

Looking at this a little more. This is the orientation of the tooth right now to align the corner.

Looks to me if I drop the carriage so the tooth can be dead center top like this

It would correct both angles.
However it would hit the raker.
So I think I need to adjust the angles on the stone to get it where I want without hitting the rakers.
Before I do this am I seeing this correctly?
