I had that ring installed for the vacuum test. In the picture I was just trying to show how far the inner ring stuck out. On my 046 the fitment of the stihl inner ring was better. I ran into a snag with the chain brake. They didn't include the detent lever and so I had to order one. I fueled up the saw and fired it for the first time. Was a bit of work to get the first start.... I flooded it out but, finally got her running and she sounds good and fires right back up.

Chain tensioner is still crap. Ordered a stihl one.
High idle works well. I know that was an issue with the earlier kits. Fitment of the air filter cover isn't the greatest mainly just a cosmetic issue. Saw seems to run well. Haven't touched the settings on the carb. Have no idea what the high and low is set at. Idle seems about right.

Check the Hi, make sure it is at least one turn out (I would start at 1.25, then adjust from there). If it is too lean you can burn it up.

Sometimes, the cases are not right, and even if you use OEM chain tensioner, you will need to shim it.

You can usually get the AM ones to work if you figure out why it is not working. I have thinned the post, ground down the large gear, opened up the gear pocket, etc.

If the big gear is too large, just chuck it in a drill and lean it against a file. Then clean the teeth up a bit.

Always remember, this is a jig saw puzzle … and you are having FUN!!!

The spur gear had sharp edges on it that were interfering with the post. I smoothed them out and got it working. Fits kind of tight so I'll probably shave a little off the backside of the gear and enlarge the gear pocket. It was fun putting this together and if they come back with the 036 kit I'll order one. May order the ms361 if I cant get an 036. Anyways, I cant wait to get this thing out in the woods and see what she'll do.

I have the 660 kit with the MMWS cross cylinder and the 361 kit with a big bore kit with gasket delete. Both saws are around 195 psi and have advanced timing and muffler mods. Both saws are runners
Replaced the crap handle on the 660 with a wrap handle. The 361 will outcut a bunch of other guys 60cc saws with ease. Got a 25" bar on both the 361 is great for all but the big stuff.

Ya it will be interesting to see how the china MS660 compares against my buddies BB 044 and MS440. The big bore 44 was definitely more powerful than my stock 046 I had. We are unsure of what has all been done to the 044 because, it was modded when he bought it. So I filed on the back of the spur gear and filed down the plastic spacer and now it works better.

The Cross MMWS cylinder kit with a popup piston is worth the extra cost. I advanced the timing and gutted the muffler and put a max flow air filter kit.

On the one I put together last month, My factory carb settings sounded good.... but my ear doesn't know what it is hearing. It was close .Tach showed lean idle 3400-3500 and rich high end 11,500. A 1/8 or so turn out and in took it to 2800-2900 and 12,300-400. Just did the third/fourth tank and finally buried the 28" bar, and it cut well for what I know. I did not lean on it, but the handle seems OK so far. Lot of people have said the handle is junk. I will upgrade my two Holtzforma chains before messing with anything else.

If nothing else, for the cost of getting a big oak cut up and the fun of putting it together, I am out nothing and learned something. Good luck with yours.

what burr do you guys use to chamfer the ports if they are sharp?
I just used a small file and some sand paper. If I had to remove much more material I would have got my dremel and a small carbide bit to cut away the material and then smooth them out with around 220 grit sandpaper. One would probably need a 90 degree cutting apparatus to get at the transfer ports.

Ya, I'll eventually get a tachometer to get more precise tuning. I've always tuned them by ear and they've always ran decent. I've only ran the ms660 for a few minutes but, it is pretty close. I'd say the high is a little rich but, hard to say without putting a load on it and its probably a good thing to be a little rich during break in.

Fine grit diamond ball somewhere around 3/16" diameter, or a smaller diameter egg shaped one. I also use a wood stick with sandpaper such as 320-400 grit super glued on, looks like this:
upload_2020-12-23_17-10-14.png I also like the Dremel brand emery /rubber abrasive disk.
