Seals, intake boot, impulse line, fuel line, fuel filter, spark plug, tank vent, Maxflo kit, top cover, trigger parts. Make sure the worm drive for the oiler is in good shape, as well as the clutch drum and bearing.

OEM intake boots are $50 in eBay. Chinese ones are $15. I don't want to pay $50 and I don't want any Chinese stuff on this saw, so I'll probably give the original one a good inspection.

I always do; 4 pieces of solder every 90 degrees, held in place by a dab of grease. Just curious about what other folks have found.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of and 066/660 you couldn’t remove gasket on and still have enough clearance but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. My round top 066 is base delete and little other tinkering and runs real well even mill with it some. Bought the saw at a garage sale with a not as nice 046 together for 300$ about 6-7 years ago.

Thanks for the info. That's a screaming deal, of course, but you already know that. I'd like to have an 046 as well, but I have a nice 044 that I've rebuilt with some mild modifications, so that will have to do.

I totally understand. I would scrounge eBay for a good lightly used one. BAO or SKF seals. OEM fuel line, filter, impulse line, and vent. Chinese trigger parts.

Pressure/vac test will tell the tale. Make sure AV mounts are good as that beats up the intake and impulse line.

If you have the jug off gently flex the intake boot to see if it is starting to crack, but not leak yet.

Got it somewhat apart before work this morning.

The jug is going to need a bit of work; there are some scratches and/or transfer that I can catch my fingernail on.

What's the current recommended method? Muriatic acid and then maybe one of the scotchbrite buffing wheels? Or skip both and use a 400 grit flapper on a small grinder?

I’ve had good luck with emery cloth and brown scotchbrite if there’s not a lot of transfer otherwise I will use acid on the bad ones.

Thanks. Are you doing this by hand on on an angle grinder?
I do a lot of them by hand but that doesn’t mean a grinder with a homemade mandrill and strip of emery wouldn’t be fine. Lots do it that way but usually I’m not in the largest hurry to clean one up.

I’m not an expert in the transfer clean up..however I do it lightly with sandpaper In fibreglass rod with a silt cut in the end on a drill on slow, then and check with acid to be sure .

Btw, need better pic of your jug and stuffs 😉

Ie above the exhaust port ! That’s the more important part

You want better pics of my jugs? Are you sure you're not asking the wrong person, on the wrong site???

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I'll try to get some decent pics of the inside of the jug.

Also need to order an OEM piston.

mesure squish first before doing any gasket delete
The problem is and can be that carbon on the piston and cumbstion chamber filling up the squish space and you gat different readings on a clean p&c… thats what I’ve found in well used saws.

However it does Hurt to get a reading beforehand 👍

Did you wash wirh baking soda water after to neutralize the acid? Meteor piston is good at half money of oem.

Acetone, brake cleaner, and soap and water.

I thought about the Meteor but I like to have OEM in case I ever sell it; non-OEM stuff makes some folks nervous.

Not same as a china piston to anyone that knows anything, I was just wondering about neutralizing the acid. Looks kinda shiny in that one photo compared to dull everywhere else I use acid if it’s bad but need to be so careful so you don’t get on aluminum in a port and release the plating ect.

Yep, if I was 100% sure I was going to keep the saw, I would order a Meteor. Otherwise, I prefer to be able to say, "Rebuilt with 100% OEM parts."

Yep, I was very careful with the acid. Just a few drops at a time.

660 cleaned up nicely. Parts are starting to arrive; time to start with reassembly.

Not sure if I'm going to wait for the new OEM fuel tank to arrive from Oz. Might just stick with the original tank, which looks much better now that it's clean.

Also ordered a Max Flow air filter setup for it.
