I don’t think I’ve ever heard of and 066/660 you couldn’t remove gasket on and still have enough clearance but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. My round top 066 is base delete and little other tinkering and runs real well even mill with it some. Bought the saw at a garage sale with a not as nice 046 together for 300$ about 6-7 years ago.
I totally understand. I would scrounge eBay for a good lightly used one. BAO or SKF seals. OEM fuel line, filter, impulse line, and vent. Chinese trigger parts.
I’ve had good luck with emery cloth and brown scotchbrite if there’s not a lot of transfer otherwise I will use acid on the bad ones.
I do a lot of them by hand but that doesn’t mean a grinder with a homemade mandrill and strip of emery wouldn’t be fine. Lots do it that way but usually I’m not in the largest hurry to clean one up.
I’m not an expert in the transfer clean up..however I do it lightly with sandpaper In fibreglass rod with a silt cut in the end on a drill on slow, then and check with acid to be sure .

The problem is and can be that carbon on the piston and cumbstion chamber filling up the squish space and you gat different readings on a clean p&c… thats what I’ve found in well used saws.
Not same as a china piston to anyone that knows anything, I was just wondering about neutralizing the acid. Looks kinda shiny in that one photo compared to dull everywhere else I use acid if it’s bad but need to be so careful so you don’t get on aluminum in a port and release the plating ect.
