This is true, I will be porting a 421 in the coming weeks, to finally compare a ported 421vs a ported 490. It should be interesting.
I will guess that the 421 has less gains then the 490.

Compare the stock 421 with PS chain against the ported 490 too. I bet its closer than you think[emoji6]

That's the plan.

18" ps on both saws, cause I have a pair of identical gb bars.
Going to try and keep it fair as I can.

I honestly don't care which saw is faster, I just want to make each saw as strong as I can. And compare 2 ported saws of the same weight/price class.

Thinking 8-10" test log.

If a stock Dolmar 421 (42.4 cc) was close to cutting with a ported cs-490 (50.2 cc)...Hey, I would take my hat off to the Dolmar. I know how my MMWS cs-500p cuts and it has the same engine as the cs-490. I would be very surprised to say the least if the stock 421 is even close in cutting speed.

What size wood you thinking? I can see it close in the 4-8" range, but fall short larger than that.

I am a firewood hack, run the saw till I run out of bar then switch to a bigger saw.

Bury those bars in some 16" stuff as well.

Didn't say it was. But, generally speaking, the Echo's gain more from a MM and tune than any other saws.

The Echo fans keep saying that when the low power specs becomes a topic, but at this point it just is hearsay - no evidence has ever been presented.

I suspect that the carb/intake and engine design/porting also are factors regarding the low power, and will limit what a muffler mod can do....

It's only hearsay when the results aren't what you like, right ST? As long as video and other evidence proves a Husky will out cut any saw on the planet...the court of ST will allow it as evidence and it will be proven fact by one slightly lop sided, agenda driven, mostly biased, judge who has ties with Husqvarna.

Matters not to me what your agenda is ST but I came over to OPE from AS to get away from all the b.i.t.c.h. fights. So I've said all I'm gonna say about your persistent Echo hating...I'm out.

The only husqvarna I see anyone bring up is the 550xp. So maybe the 545? But both are 50cc saws. But I don't know much about husqvarnas.
