Win the opportunity for doing a muffler repair or replacement.

I picked up an aftermarket muffler cover and after weighing it decided it might not be a good idea to add over a half pound of extra weight to the front of the mounting bolts. YMMV

Doc said he wanted to try to fix it...so I sent it to him..

Never heard anything back...so I'm assuming he couldn't fix it.

And I agree about some of these aftermarket covers...too heavy for the mounting bolts...especially the stwaight shot.

Main thing on the 585/592 mufflers is the cover plate. It comes loose and rattles around and starts beating the mounting tubes that run through the body of the muffler. Those start to get loose and the whole thing rattles itself apart. A good buddy just had to replace one. Like the early 3120 mufflers, a guy has to check them every few hours of runtime.
Removing the triangular cover and leaving it off seems to be the only solution so far.

Have seen several with the case threads wallered out on the bottom muffler mount from heavy AM replacement covers.

I like my 572xp, it has a lot of run time on it and was used by a logger before I got it. Runs great and has a ton of power thanks to the xtra sausage. Have not run my 592xp yet but I’d imagine it’s just the bigger brother 💪🏽
I like both my 572 and bigger heavier 592 the 500i being a bit lighter than either I enjoy it more the longer the day is, massaged by a Chimpanzee adds a few bananas under the hood.

Agree, think stock was around 3.5oz and stwaight shot clone around 13.8oz so 10.3oz or 2.3ozs over a half pound.
First thought is one of the reasons I bought the 500i because it was lighter than either my 572 or 592 so why am I adding over a half pound.
Second thought was adding the additional weight to the mounting bolts.🤔

After receiving my first 500i from being ported by the Chimpanzee and seeing the muffler cover mod he did I ordered a muffler cover from him for my second 500i leaving the stwaight shot sitting in a box new and unmounted. YMMV

The 572 has the heated handle option and the 585 does not. A nice option at least here in the land of frozen tundra.
