Yeah, I was kidding, totally. I really have never seen an Echo, so have no input on that saw. I will say my 421 screams, and runs alongside big name 50's with no problem.

I bought everything through Nate. He sells the kit. My 16" is 66dl.

I recently picked up the bigger brother, a 5100s. I'll have to post some photos later. They are pretty similar in size. I was surprised.

I almost bought a saw from Nate, only reason I didn't is because I went with local dealer who had a deal. Nate is a great guy, answered a bunch of my questions, wouldn't hesitate to buy a saw from him.

I don't doubt it! I've run the 421 myself. Fantastic saw. And I used to own a cs500p which is basically the same saw as the 490. I dont want to spoil the suspense, but I'm pretty sure how the times would shake out.

Over all fit finish of both saws. Weight differences. General overview of features of both saws. Will you be able to play with the tune of the echo at all?
Yes the tune should be able to be played with on the echo as well as the dolmar

Isn't the Echo a 50cc saw? The Dolmars going to be fighting above its weight class. I'm curious since I own a 421. However, I'd really like to see a 421 VS 241 Stihl.
Yes the echo is a 50cc but the price and weight are very close and the way everyone brags the dolmar up I think it would be a good comparison for someone looking for a great small firewood saw or a serious home owner saw. Heck I know some guys use the little 421 for professional work.

Im curious to see the out come as well. Ive always wanted to try a 420 or 421, but i havent let my cad get the best of me like it use to. Can someone throw in a 543xp??? Been curious to see how they really run too.

At work, we've been clearing a 6' tall fence line along a local interstate. Probably a 500-600 foot stretch. The smallest saw that we use is a 550xp. The brush we were cutting ranged from 1"-3". Many times i thought to myself that a smaller, more agile, saw would be better for what we were doing. We were cutting stuff that was 5-6' off the ground, growing through the fence and that starts to wear on u after a while.

Even though my ms241 seemed to have the same dementionswas as my 550xp, the 241 definitely handled different.

This will be a great comparison.

I'm sure @CoreyB will find this out but one of the downfalls to the 421 is it only comes in 3/8lp set up. 490 usually.325

And you have to buy a stihl chains if you want 3/8 lp full chisel as oregon only makes semi chisel. Grrrr.

Best of luck and I look forward to your review.

I like using 3/8lp. I don't have any saws that use .325 so i just keep it simple.
I was just more meaning for a direct comparisson. Imo the same chain is more important than the same bar length. We all know a chain can make or break a saw faster than anything.

I would go even smaller for that work. I really like the stihl 192 rear handle for just that kind of stuff. It snaps through 6" and smaller hard wood. and is still right at 10 pounds full of fluids and with bar and chain. Not the empty pho advertised weight which the 192 is something like 7.7 pounds.

Ya that is something that will have to be addressed. I myself would like to run the 3/8lp stihl chain. I need to figure out which one is cheaper to convert for continuity. I think bailey's arbor pro bar is universal mount. I need to see if I can get one bar to work with both that would make it easier

I switched my 490 over to 3/8 can't remember which rim but it was for a stihl my local dealer had them and I use husky bars.
