The Dolly looks a bit cleaner, probably no worries on either?

image.png image.png image.pngFull of fluids, 55dl lp stihl bar on 241, 56 dl lp dolmar on the 421, and 66dl .325 husky bar on the 543. For the price you can't beat the dolmar, I've had mine 3 days and I'm liking it... I've got to find a bar this flimsy thing it comes with is junk. What i don't understand is everyone on here and arboristsite claim the dolmar is heavy... I know the stihl guys won't like it but it's lighter than a 241...

Ya take all the cat crap outta the 421 muffler and it'll be down closer to the husky weight.

The only ones saying its heavy are the ones who've never picked one up.

Ya the 421 feels solid. I guess some may notake be used to that. It doesn't feel heavier then the 490. The 490 feels a bit more ergonomic but has more vibration then the 421.

I ordered the Makita version of the 421. Should have it in a week or two.

Pumped for the ea4300. Using it as my limbing saw. Gonna take the cat out asap and throw a 15" .325 b and c on it.

This will be a great comparison.

I'm sure @CoreyB will find this out but one of the downfalls to the 421 is it only comes in 3/8lp set up. 490 usually.325

And you have to buy a stihl chains if you want 3/8 lp full chisel as oregon only makes semi chisel. Grrrr.

Best of luck and I look forward to your review.

It's funny over here I can't get the 420/ 421 in 3/8 only .325 The 350/351 comes in 3/8

This is a brilliant thread

Dolmar 421 is definitely on my short list for saws to get. It will be a perfect limbing saw for me. Just need to contact miller mod or fordf150 once I get back to work

I just bought some bucking spikes off @fordf150 he's a grade a grape sailor! And Carl @Miller Mod Saws was recently voted grape sailor of the year by Saw Polishers Quarterly. You couldn't find two better guys to buy from.

@Miller Mod Saws have you ported a 421 yet? I want to see a 421 against the 026/260.....head to head against a 490 would be good too since i have 3 people emailing/calling asking questions about those 2 saws in particular and how they compare....i dont have any good wood to make a video comparing cut times on them

CoreyB is getting ready to show ya the outcome of the 421/490. I know this outcome but the ported saws is what I want to know the outcome of. I can tell you the 500p/490 is a huge gain saw. Let's hope the 421 is as well. The 5105 well we will see. Lol. Really not in the same class though in my opinion. I like to go off the saws weight not the cc to put it in a class.

490 is indeed a huge gain saw..

If anything the sugar maple test log is bigger/more dense by the time the ported saw got its turn.

Might have to get a 421 to play with.

Trade someone one a ported 346 for a nice 421... :)

I have a new Ps 420 (euro version of the 421) that I'm basically still running in. A spare muffler is going to be "Cat Gutted" and then installed. Have to say even in standard form and after a TAC retune after running for 1/2 hr, its not half bad at all ! ..Probably got 3 hrs on it now so il give it a while longer before i say its properly free.
My saw did come with 3/8 and .325 bars and chain ( euro ones do) iv settled on the .325 option as over here ..this is a very common size and much more widely used.. same as 3/8 lo pro seems to be a common choice in the US.
Oregon LPX 20 is going on the saw ASAP ...the standard chains were semi chisel, still made by Oregon though.
