Well, here is the thing about ported saws. If I need work done on it, and take it to a random stihl dealer, or repair shop, will they be likely to have the replacement parts handy, AND be able/qualified to make the repairs, or would I need to have the saw shipped back to... Randy, was it?

Because like I was saying, the point of getting this lighter saw is for basically doing missions work. If I'm 5 states from home, and with 100 other saw operators, the chances of having 50:1 mix put in it are quite high, just by someone being helpful.

For the most part, they are just like a regular saw to work on.

I'm partial to the 260/261 family, but there's nothing wrong with the MS250.

Open quad port design, love to rev. They need a muff mod desperately and you need the adjustable H carb. From a price and performance standpoint, it's a tough saw to beat. Pretty darn light too.

The downside is that you really won't be able to port it later (fully) because of the clamshell design.

Were you talking about the 250 being quad port?

Ported or not I'd go with the 261 stihl or a 5105 dolly. Sense you don't know where you'll be I'd favor the stihl cause there's a dealer on every corner.

Keep your chain sharp, air filter clean, & run more oil than 50:1. And it'll last along time & keep your chain sharp.

Are there any/many Canadian Stihl dealers on here who would already have gotten the Type II 261s? Because they list as higher HP, and lower weight than the previous iteration of the 261
