Are there any/many Canadian Stihl dealers on here who would already have gotten the Type II 261s? Because they list as higher HP, and lower weight than the previous iteration of the 261

I don't know. Maybe someone will. I would wonder what parts are different & can be interchangeable between the oe & ne. If it doesn't get released in the US for another 6months & you need a mufler bearing will it have to come from canadia?

I'm pulling out all the stops to get both the new 362, and the new 261 here.........stay tuned. :)

Well there are rumors that the Canadians might be listing the new 261 at the same price the old ones are on sale for, and that + the Canadian dollar being weaker than the US dollar, I could afford the 261 (or at least swallow the sticker shock better).

They are a totally new saw...

I'm not sure why they didn't change the model number.

I am not posting to speak down on Stihl, if I had to buy one light saw tomorrow I would struggle to not bring Husky 545,550/ JRed 2252,2253 into discussion, special if there lots of limbing work.
That said, nothing beat the good old Husky 242 in limbing work.

Ported with square ground .325 pitch.

That series of events cemented my thoughts on many things. Awesome saw, I'd be proud to own one. A perfect example of a well modded saw punching above its weight without making a fuel hungry pig.

OP - you mentioned that in the situations you will use it you can't guarantee the fuel going into your saw. Someone else might be helpful and fill it for you. That is nightmare material.
Be that fussy prick who will only use their own fuel, or buy a Chinese piece of crap that you don't care about.

Well, they couldn't call it a 262... Lol
wasnt really clever of them to continue to call them for 261, new number always tell it's a new serie.
Perhaps they should had called it for 261 mark II.

Isnt 241 a tad lighter also?

MS261C and you'll never regret it. No tuning.......can run full sized bar and 3/8" chain. That means you carry one file for both your 661, and your 261. It's a no brainer.

If you want one that is ported......just let me know. I get a good deal on them including the bar and chain.

Listen to the wise monkey. The 261 type II, or what ever they are dubing the new version, makes the most sence.

Yah I'm thinking that (261) or (IF I feel confident in it being able to be repaired from on hand parts at most Stihl/Husky dealers) the Dolmar. Otherwise just taking a couple other peoples suggestion to go with the 250.

This is the dilemma. Any of these saws will easily do what you want. Eithe go cheap, or go 261 and at least share filing gear with the 661 (and have the strongest saw in the option list).
