To clarify :

RM = round filed semi chisel - slow and and most durable

RS = round filed full chisel. Faster but the working corner is unsupported.

RSK - full chisel square filed/ground aka @chiselbit. Working corner is well supported and with a stock grind holds up quite well. I have never tried it in 3/8" but in .404 it is amazing. If one has a lot of dirty wood to cut, simply going .404 helps a lot.

Sorry David, but RSK is not square ground. It’s still round ground full chisel, with different angles than RS, promoting more efficient, faster cuts for “professionals”.

Those in the pic are old and smaller than the ones you can buy now. I have small ear canals and really liked the old ones. They lived in my shirt pocket for years after the string broke

I rip the center "flap" off the blue plugs, makes them much more comfortable.

3M makes many, many kinds of ear plugs. Then, they bought a company that makes more!

Many ear plugs come in sizes, but are not always stocked. Or, you need to buy in quantity.

I was mistaken!
The blue rubber plugs feature a rubber cord.

These are the orange ones, they are comfy!
It was sealed, I opened it to figure out which ones they are.
They come with a little trash can.

I think you just have to face the music,dirty gritty wood just dulls chains fast .Meaning you just need to file more often .Not that big of a deal,a 20" loop is about a 5 minute job .

I searched for RSK on fleabay and first thing that came up was a used 30" loop which I could use. Anyone have pics of the factory grind?

It’s a big deal when you’re dulling them every few cuts and have 15,000 bd ft of logs to buck. Working smarter, not harder is key.

Yeah dull every couple cuts is not economically viable…and I’m running a lot bigger than 20”. Skip .404 stihl FTW


Cut some dry Euc with RS and Oregon semi chisel last night. The RS cut ok but hit something and knocked the working corner off one side of the chain a couple cuts in.

The semi chisel I had ground “durable”. No bite with the rakers down .030”. Good recipe I found to get the working corner located pretty well and put some hook in it is a 3/16” file on the husky roller guide.

They dealt with it about 40 some years ago salvaging that blow down from Mount St Helens .However the average person doesn't have to deal with that amount of dirty wood .
