There is a winter hd type filter also ,it has green on it instead of black .

Yes this is the winter hd filter ,more or less a screen to filter instead of fabric ,supposed to let the heat from the engine in easier to prevent carb ice up .There should be a skin on it like the original hd filters had also .

One on the left has what's called a winter filter, see how the filter is different, flatter, filter cover is totally different also, then the HD type base and cover. One on the right is the HD type filter system.

I believe it's been said that the AM pleated hd2 style works well, lasts longer, and is much cheaper

Never heard it said that they last longer, but the rest I believe is true.

If they get the dyno up and running for the CT Spring GTG, I will bring a new HD-2 and AM filter to test against each other. They do seem to work well.

Context, i guess
I meant they seem to last longer between necessary cleanings. As in, after a couple hours of use they still allow plenty of air, as compared to being choked down

A flow bench with dyed smoke would show flow results pretty good.
