Thanks for all the replies. It was at a dealer and they went through it and said everything looked good. It has the HD filter.
The specs in the manual list power head weight at 13lbs.

I just know 044s sir.the rivot side cover tag and the red kill switch tells me early ks 10mm saw.

I notice the muffler outlet is bigger( but untouched) and no limiter caps. Any idea when they started using those?

The dealer isn't the one you want "putting fingers in it!"
CFB knows a thing or two.

Gorgeous saw, I'm drooling! As Brian said, and early 10 mm saw. They run great stock, but ...

For max performance (and they will generally out run a stock 460) replace the air filter with an HD-2 (or AM version), mod the muff (or dp cover), (your primary muff hole is already the large version), advance the timing .020, and delete the base gasket. My Red Lever 10 mm (I have owned it since new 12/92) runs very strong with those mods.

Let me know if you need any other details, I love those saws. Do those mods and it will run like a ported saw.

Nice score, looks like a nice low hour saw. However, the manual's back then fibbed, the dry powerhead weight is very close to 14 lbs, still about the lightest 70 cc saw out there, but it is not 13 lbs.

Conversely, you saw is rated at 5.1 Hp, but will generally out run the later 044/440s that were rated at 5.4 Hp.

If/when you mod the muff, don't forget to richen the tune a bit.

Thanks Mike. I didn't think you'd be along until 4/16. lol

The limiter caps are normally on the ms series saws ,the early ones had the bigger exhaust opening, ,the later ones with smaller exhaust opening had a shield plate between the muffler and the cylinder from the extra heat produced to make cleaner exhaust burn, the limiters are normally on the choked up saws so people do not burn them up,gives a safe adjustment range i guess.

You can talk about the early ones not having compensating carbs if you want.;)

Yes, no snorkels on these carbs. I have seen three different carb shields on the 044/440s. One does not accommodate a snorkel carb, one simply plugs the snorkel, and one utilizes the snorkel. The snorkel carbs are the same as on a 460.
