Your cylinder does appear to be a KS cylinder but I can't be 100%. Can you post a closer picture of the top LH corner of the cylinder?
That was my thought too.
Pics are low resolution.....hard to tell

That's the best the ole iphone 5 will do. I can try to zoom at home. It's a very low hour saw. My dad bought it off my uncle, who bought it new. Maybe 10-15 tanks as none of them burn wood.

I was just curious because I thought the ks were more desirable. But it didn't have the riveted tab on the side cover.

The + symbol seems to represent the revision of design, I think less + earlier the cylinder. I think my mahle slant fin 12mm has 6 + symbol, must be one of the last before straight fin. Yours seems to be early with only 2 +. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Also, the other 044 doesn't have the red kill switch, but the SN is lower. To me that means it's earlier, but it also has a magnum sticker. What's the deal with the red switch?

Mine has red kill switch slant fin 12mm. I'm not sure the deal but they seemed to switch from black to red to black again kill switches in 044's. Some people put magnum sticker on just to look cool lol. I think the decomp straight fin 044's and 440's come with magnum sticker.

Well, I was going to sell the really clean 044 I got off ebay that had an aftermarket cyl. But since my dad's is low hour I may swap the plastics to make it pristine and use the ebay chinese cylinder saw for day to day. Maybe try to find a ks cylinder, maybe not.

The ebay saw does have double rings per groove. Can I buy stihl rings to put on the piston or does aftermarket not work with OEM?

Make sure you use right thickness oem use 1.2 mm rings and most aftermarket I think are 1.5

The early 044s were black lever, then they went to red lever, then soon after going to 12 mm they went back to black lever again.

The KS jugs are generally considered to be very good runners, but many of the non KS jugs are good runners also.

Mason can tell you, even my straight fin no name 440 jug runs pretty good! (with base gasket delete & timing advance).

I need to find an OEM cylinder for my ebay saw. I had purchased a 12mm topend kit from a member, but sold it when I was going to sell the saw. Good thing I looked at the SN.
