The filter that came on my 044 used to look just like that (a long, long time ago).

The earliest ones came with a filter set up very similar to what you see on the 029/039 series.
I may actually have one in the box o parts I have in the basement.
Those are the ones I'm talking about. Not an HD or hd2. More like a screened or fleece upright filter

They might be called winter filters. Wire mesh on outside for snow. They have green in them. I have one.

I doubt you can get them at the dealer anymore, but they are on eBay, but time you buy all three pieces, you will have more in it, then a new HD2 costs. They need to be oiled, they are not as easy to maintain as the HD2 types.

No not the green HD winter ones. I'm pretty sure what he was talking about are these.

One on the left has what's called a winter filter, see how the filter is different, flatter, filter cover is totally different also, then the HD type base and cover. One on the right is the HD type filter system.

Nice photo comparison. I thought there was a winter type HD2 filter. I'll try and dig it out for a photo.
