I split some wood over the weekend with my Collins Axe. Nothing special, just a standard 2 1/2 or 3lb single bit. (Can’t remember the weight, and the tags are all gone) Split some seasoned red oak, and even some seasoned Ash.. the whole time I was thinking about that Ox Head..
Here’s my Collins I halfed , it’s a splitting machine. B15290D4-F9C4-4544-8AF0-16F4487C055D.jpeg9D4686A6-E2B4-4F7B-991D-8B14F9560D54.jpeg

From what I’ve read of your posts, you’ve got a unique situation down that way as far as wood is concerned.. I got my Collins Axe stuck a few times the other day. Just kept wondering if I invest in that Ox Head, if it truly would be better and worth it?
The little straight grained wood there was in this mesquite split the easiest I can remember splitting.

I take that back…if I try another it will be one like the now discontinued wetterlings in the middle.

Gona be honest, I didnt read all of this but skimmed over most of it. It think I have enough first hand experience to maybe help somebody out. I aint talking about wedge banga's either, just splitting axes/mauls.

The I keep the my gransfors maul by my back door. I love the build quality but it aint for hardwoods, gets stuck too easy. I use it to split down pre split pieces, or for kindling. The profile is just too thin for hardwoods.

The wetterlings was my go to splitter. Doesnt get stuck easily and hits hard but it has sat lately because I have too many mauls to use and not enough time to swing them. It is in my opinion though at the to of the heap for a splitting maul/axe.

I just got the stihl branded ox splitting ax and have had a similar experience to yours. It hits hard and doesnt get stuck to easy. I would like a different handle but it is what it is.

i just ordered the stihl branded ox maul so cant wait to try it out.

Fiskar x27 er'body knows is awesome but had not soul like a wood handled axe and the isocore is legit too but will hurty my hands on occasion.

TLDR avoid the gransfors if you split hardwoods and get the wetterlings. Not quite a nice fit and finish but a fine heirloom tool that splits with the best of em.

I've seen a few items from Tits McGee pop up in my searches. I can't help but wonder how many items they sell, just from the pictures.

I'm sure it helps. When scrolling threw 100 axe head listings, and you see one like that, it will catch your attention more, than just a rusty axe head laying on a table.

I'm not sure what's worse............what that says about us (men), or what that says about her, actually advertising like that.
