Whale…I busted it. Emailed them in the afternoon and got an email back overnight that they are sending a new one. Grain orientation not great, but I have also cracked my fiskars. 😬 I shouldn’t have tackled that piece, it’s a hard core to be noodled and I knew better. I got too rough with it trying to get it out. After I got it out, I tried with my 8lb mauls. The fiskars iso got stuck multiple times and even the wide husky got a little wedged. The piece never split. It did do a very nice job of splitting up the outer pieces. I might ask them if I can keep the old head and hang it 36”…

I got to thinking…I bet a longer thinner more flexible maul handle would be better.

Did you say flexible handle? No, it's not a bent haft I'm mock wrenching, this was a nice whippy haft I made.

i think the only way a flexible handle would work is if you get the whip action out of it like a golf club. however i think you wouldnt be able to capitilze on that effect due to the wood block. just my thoughts

Does anyone have any experience with that Iltis Ox Head Splitting Axe in White Oak? Does it do well? Trying to justify buying one - I mostly burn White and Red Oak among some other species.

White oak makes excellent slender handles if the grain is right. Red elm is very different to work and warps a lot but splits less.

I have 2 of the 5# Council axes ……. Aint no reason to spend more money than they cost for wedge banger/axe duties. I painted them Chrysler engine blue, guaranteed to find them anywhere in the woods in every season
