what is kathy ?
i usually run yamalube 2r
but as long as they use 40to1 or so im ok with any oil

thats the main thing to me it just needs to be in with the gas

I typically run amsoil dominator 32-40:1

Made a fresh batch just for yesterday just for the saber.

Anyone that has seen me tune, it will be on the rich side of the spectrum..

For a few 10-15second cuts with idle time stright gas would prolly work lol

Anyone have a throw away cylinder?
See if I can dig something up to try That.

I'm sure there are a lot of ported ones I would beat, but I doubt they will be sent to Joe.

My point was that my Asian saw had nice increases, and a broad power range, compared to stock saws of similar size. My #s were about normal for ported saws of that size.

Anyone who sent a stock saw to be ported and came back with the results of my Asian dyno would not have anything to complain about.

It is nice to see standout saws like your 500, DEETs Hybrid, the TM 660 and Scarr 395, but realize they are the exceptions, not the norm.

Even many builders will lament that they can't always replicate the performance of their best saws.

Your 036 also did nicely, Al builds a nice saw!

So far, I think I have the "Asian Saw Crown"!!!

Sadly I don't own the best 395's I've done or I would have sent one of them. The last batch of 4 395's I did, all but 1 ended up cutting withing 0.1s of each other with the same bar/chain. The one that was off ended up having an AM coil on it that I later found and now it's right on par as well. But this isn't always the case, 395 cylinders are very consistent from the factory so I never have to fudge anything to make due with the cylinders.

Some generalizations I’ve seen relating to tuning and dyno work on 4 stroke bikes, still applicable to some extent here though…

The “practical/usable power band” (or whatever you want to call it) is typically within the whole area between peak torque and peak hp and the further the spread, the more forgiving it is in use (“torquey”).

The more hp you squeeze out of it, the closer together peak torque and peak hp become (“peaky”).

So on that alone (never mind heat, longevity, etc), there can be some amount of intentional compromise between the most hp and the most usable power band, depending on intended use.

On paper, peak hp should always win but in some applications, as the power band narrows, it becomes increasingly difficult to apply that power effectively.

Obviously if you gain a significant amount of hp, the “peakyness” becomes less relevant…

I want to see someone build a 58mm 660 (105.6cc) hybrid and dyno it. I had plans for one, but I don't see me getting around to it in the foreseeable future.

Also, let's put this in perspective. I did the final port work to this saw MYSELF, using a tool from HF that cost $6.99 (on sale).

I am not a professional builder, I'm just a hack that likes to play, so I don't have the experience, tools or knowledge that some of the real saw builders have.

Other than the DEET's saw, not many have submitted stuff they worked on themselves.

So, for an all Asian saw, with the final port work done by myself, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Some folks underestimated what my saw's performance would be more than I over estimated it.

You obviously do very nice work, your saw was impressive. It is a major gain over stock.

You should try an HD2 filter, dual port muff cover, and a timing advance. That bad mfer prolly crack 15 horsepowr no sweat

When you get around to doing that 562, you could send to Joe on it’s way to me.

I would be curious to see how much of the woods port gain is from the average joe trifecta. Basic mods and a great chain will hurt a lot of feelings.

We can all learn if we all share openly. Even a ported saw that performs worse than stock can provide valuable information.

What if we had a saw on the dyno. Ie.372 and people sent in their jug or jug carb muffler. Then have a shoot out that way. Shipping would be way cheaper. It would be a little work for joe though. Just an idea.

I just saw an old lady, I complained about Covid and wearing a mask, not being able to grab dinner somewhere.

She reminded me she survived the concentration camps and that "World War II wasn't so easy".

Perspective can be odd.

Let's keep things civil here.

Oh.... I see.

So it's ok if it's just Joe doing the work eh?

Damn kids these days.
