I would be curious to see how much of the woods port gain is from the average joe trifecta. Basic mods and a great chain will hurt a lot of feelings.

We can all learn if we all share openly. Even a ported saw that performs worse than stock can provide valuable information.

With a simple muffler mod, I got an older 261c to cut about 30% faster.
Did about 20% better on a 10mm 044 simply by messing with the timing.

Also, let's put this in perspective. I did the final port work to this saw MYSELF, using a tool from HF that cost $6.99 (on sale).

I am not a professional builder, I'm just a hack that likes to play, so I don't have the experience, tools or knowledge that some of the real saw builders have.

Other than the DEET's saw, not many have submitted stuff they worked on themselves.

So, for an all Asian saw, with the final port work done by myself, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Some folks underestimated what my saw's performance would be more than I over estimated it.

You did pretty damn well for all aftermarket. You owe no one any apologies. If I had a $300 660 that pulled that dyno run, I would be ecstatic.
I mean, I have a mildly warmed over 288xp that startles me often enough when it gets a pinch. It pulls a 30 inch bar strongly through oak, and I doubt it's knocking on the 9hp door like your saw is. We just cut wood, mang.

Here's a vid of that 261c with just an MM:

It's boring in the beginning, if you maybe just wanna watch enough to get the idea of the difference. It goes from being a strong saw to a saw needing a high discharge clutch cover and better ear plugs with about 30 mins of work. About half of the way in to the cut, the bar tip is buried in the wood.

Dang it Sparky, you took the wind right out my sails with your intelligent, insightful, thoughtful post.

I'm sure there are a lot of ported ones I would beat, but I doubt they will be sent to Joe.

My point was that my Asian saw had nice increases, and a broad power range, compared to stock saws of similar size. My #s were about normal for ported saws of that size.

Anyone who sent a stock saw to be ported and came back with the results of my Asian dyno would not have anything to complain about.

It is nice to see standout saws like your 500, DEETs Hybrid, the TM 660 and Scarr 395, but realize they are the exceptions, not the norm.

Even many builders will lament that they can't always replicate the performance of their best saws.

Your 036 also did nicely, Al builds a nice saw!

So far, I think I have the "Asian Saw Crown"!!!
Is the Asian Saw Crown like a participation ribbon?
